Hadith 1552
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو حَامِدٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ ، ثنا أَبُو السُّكَيْنِ الطَّائِيُّ زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ يَحْيَى ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ، ثنا جُنَيْدُ بْنُ حَكِيمٍ ، ثنا أَبُو السُّكَيْنِ الطَّائِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سِكِّينٍ الشَّقَرِيُّ الْمُؤَذِّنُ ، نا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ الْغَنَوِيُّ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سُوقَةَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : فَقَدَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَوْمًا فِي الصَّلاةِ ، فَقَالَ : " مَا خَلَّفَكُمْ عَنِ الصَّلاةِ ؟ " ، قَالُوا : لِحَاءٌ كَانَ بَيْنَنَا ، فَقَالَ : " لا صَلاةَ لِجَارِ الْمَسْجِدِ إِلا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ " . هَذَا لَفْظُ ابْنِ مَخْلَدٍ ، وَقَالَ أَبُو حَامِدٍ : " لا صَلاةَ لِمَنْ سَمِعَ النِّدَاءَ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَأْتِ إِلا مِنْ عِلَّةٍ ".
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports: Once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) found some people absent during the congregational prayer, so he inquired: “Why did those people not participate in the prayer?” The people replied: They had some work. So he said: “The prayer of one who lives near the mosque is only in the mosque.” These are the words of Ibn Makhlad, while Abu Hamid narrated these words: “Whoever hears the call to prayer and does not come (to the mosque), his prayer is not valid, except if there is an excuse (i.e., a valid reason).”
Hadith 1553
وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو يُوسُفَ يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْمُذَكِّرُ ، ثنا أَبُو يَحْيَى الْعَطَّارُ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ غَالِبٍ ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ دَاوُدَ الْيَمَامِيِّ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لا صَلاةَ لِجَارِ الْمَسْجِدِ إِلا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The prayer of the one who lives near the mosque is only in the mosque."
Hadith 1554
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْبَزَّازُ ، ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَرَفَةَ ، حَدَّثَنِي الْمُطَّلِبُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ السَّبِيعِيِّ ، عَنِ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ ، قَالَ : " مَنْ كَانَ جَارَ الْمَسْجِدِ فَسَمِعَ الْمُنَادِيَ يُنَادِي فَلَمْ يُجِبْهُ مِنْ غَيْرِ عُذْرٍ فَلا صَلاةَ لَهُ " .
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Whoever lives in the neighborhood of the mosque and hears the muezzin giving the call to prayer, and does not come (to the mosque for prayer) without any excuse, then his prayer is not valid."
Hadith 1555
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُبَشِّرٍ ، ثنا عَبْدُ الْحَمِيدِ بْنُ بَيَانٍ ، ثنا هُشَيْمٌ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، ثنا عَدِيُّ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " مَنْ سَمِعَ النِّدَاءَ فَلَمْ يُجِبْهُ فَلا صَلاةَ لَهُ إِلا مِنْ عُذْرٍ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Whoever hears the call to prayer and does not respond to it (i.e., does not come to the mosque to perform the prayer in congregation), his prayer is not valid, except if there is an excuse, then (the ruling is different)."
Hadith 1556
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ مُبَشِّرٍ ، وَآخَرُونَ ، قَالُوا : نا عَبَّاسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الدُّورِيُّ ، ثنا قُرَادٌ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، بِإِسْنَادِهِ نَحْوَهُ . قَالَ الشَّيْخُ : رَفَعَهُ هُشَيْمٌ ، وَقُرَادٌ شَيْخٌ مِنَ الْبَصْرِيِّينَ مَجْهُولٌ.
The same narration is transmitted with another chain, while some narrators have reported it as a marfu‘ (attributed to the Prophet) hadith.
Hadith 1557
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ مِرْدَاسٍ ، ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ ، ثنا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، ثنا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ أَبِي جَنَابٍ ، عَنْ مَغْرَاءَ الْعَبْدِيِّ ، عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ سَمِعَ الْمُنَادِيَ فَلَمْ يَمْنَعْهُ مِنِ اتِّبَاعِهِ عُذْرٌ " ، قَالُوا : وَمَا الْعُذْرُ ؟ قَالَ : " خَوْفٌ أَوْ مَرَضٌ لَمْ يَقْبَلِ اللَّهُ مِنْهُ الصَّلاةَ الَّتِي صَلَّى " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever hears the call to prayer and has no excuse preventing him from accepting it (i.e., going for the congregational prayer)," the people asked: What is meant by excuse? He replied: "Fear or illness." (The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:) "Then the prayer that such a person performs (in his house), Allah will not accept that prayer from him."
