Hadith 1545
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الْبَزَّازُ ، ثنا الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، ثنا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ ، وَعَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ، وَيُونُسُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ ، أَنَّ ابْنَ شِهَابٍ أَخْبَرَهُمْ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَتْ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي فِيمَا بَيْنَ أَنْ يَفْرَغَ مِنْ صَلاةِ الْعِشَاءِ إِلَى الْفَجْرِ إِحْدَى عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً ، يُسَلِّمُ مِنْ كُلِّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَيُوتِرُ بِوَاحِدَةٍ ، وَيَسْجُدُ سَجْدَةً قَدْرَ مَا يَقْرَأُ أَحَدُكُمْ خَمْسِينَ آيَةً قَبْلَ أَنْ يَرْفَعَ رَأْسَهُ ، فَإِذَا سَكَتَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ مِنْ صَلاةِ الْفَجْرِ وَتَبَيَّنَ لَهُ الْفَجْرُ ، قَامَ فَرَكَعَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ خَفِيفَتَيْنِ ، ثُمَّ اضْطَجَعَ عَلَى شِقِّهِ الأَيْمَنِ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَهُ الْمُؤَذِّنُ لِلإِقَامَةِ فَيَخْرُجَ مَعَهُ " . وَبَعْضُهُمْ يَزِيدُ عَلَى بَعْضٍ فِي قِصَّةِ الْحَدِيثِ.
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform eleven rak‘ahs between the time after finishing the ‘Isha prayer until the break of true dawn. In these, he would say salam after every two rak‘ahs and make them odd with one rak‘ah. In this, he would make one prostration so long that a person could recite fifty verses during it. Then, when the muezzin would finish giving the call to Fajr and the true dawn had appeared, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would get up and perform two short rak‘ahs. Then he would lie down on his right side until the muezzin would come to call him for prayer, and he would go with him. Different narrators have transmitted this incident with slight variations in wording.
Hadith 1546
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ الأَشْعَثِ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، قَالا : نا شُعْبَةُ . ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْمَالِكِيُّ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، ثنا بُنْدَارٌ ، ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ . ح وَحَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ الْقَطَّانُ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، قَالا : نا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ عَطَاءٍ ، أنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَلِيًّا الأَزْدِيَّ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " صَلاةُ اللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى " . قَالَ لَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي دَاوُدَ : هَذِهِ سُنَّةٌ تَفَرَّدَ بِهَا أَهْلُ مَكَّةَ.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "The voluntary prayers of the night and day are to be performed two by two."
