بَابُ الْإِمَامِ يَسْبِقُ الْمَأْمُومِينَ بِبَعْضِ الصَّلَاةِ فَيَدْخُلُ مَعَهُمْ مِنْ حِينَ أَدْرَكَهُ وَيَكُونُ أَوَّلَ صَلَاتِهِ
Chapter on the imam preceding the followers in some of the prayer, joining him from when they catch up, and that being the start of their prayer
Hadith 1497
ثنا ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ، ثنا دَاوُدُ بْنُ رُشَيْدٍ ، ثنا أَبُو يَزِيدَ الْخَرَّازُ ، هُوَ خَالِدُ بْنُ حَيَّانَ الرَّقِّيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ بُرْقَانَ ، عَنْ خُصَيْفِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ : " إِذَا سَلَّمَ الإِمَامُ فَسَلِّمْ عَنْ يَمِينِكَ ، وَعَنْ شِمَالِكَ ، وَلا يَسْتَقْبِلَنَّ شَيْئًا مِنْ صَلاتِكَ بَعْدَهُ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "When the Imam says salam, then you should say salam to the right and to the left, and after that, do not turn to any part of your prayer."
Hadith 1498
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، ثنا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، أَنَّ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : " مَا أَدْرَكْتَ مَعَ الإِمَامِ فَهُوَ أَوَّلُ صَلاتِكَ ، وَاقْضِ مَا سَبَقَكَ بِهِ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ " . قَالَ : وَحَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ ، مثل قَوْلِ عَلِيٍّ.
Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: "Whatever part of the prayer you catch with the Imam, that will be your beginning of the prayer, and whatever recitation has already passed, you should complete it afterwards." Sa'id bin al-Musayyib also holds the same opinion as Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him).
Hadith 1499
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ حُصَيْنٍ أَبُو سُلَيْمٍ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ ، قَالَ : سَأَلْتُ الأَوْزَاعِيَّ ، وَسَعِيدَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ، فَقَالا : " لا يَجْعَلُ مَا أَدْرَكَ مِنْ صَلاةِ الإِمَامِ أَوَّلَ صَلاتِهِ " .
Muhammad bin Shu'ayb narrates: I asked Imam Awza'i and Sa'id bin Abdul Aziz about this matter, and both of them said: "Whatever part of the prayer you catch with the Imam, consider it as the beginning part of your own prayer."
