بَابُ تَلْقِينِ الْمَأْمُومِ لِإِمَامِهِ إِذَا وَقَفَ فِي قِرَاءَتِهِ
Chapter on the follower prompting the imam if he pauses in his recitation
Hadith 1488
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ، ثنا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ الصَّوَّافُ ، أنا يَحْيَى بْنُ غَيْلانَ ، أنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ بَزِيعٍ ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : " كُنَّا نَفْتَحُ عَلَى الأَئِمَّةِ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " .
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: During the blessed time of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), we used to prompt our imam.
Hadith 1489
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ، ثنا دَاوُدُ بْنُ رُشَيْدٍ ، ثنا أَبُو حَفْصٍ الأَبَّارُ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنِ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ ، قَالَ : " مَنْ فَتَحَ عَلَى الإِمَامِ فَقَدْ تَكَلَّمَ " . مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَالِمٍ ، ضَعِيفٌ مَتْرُوكٌ.
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Whoever prompts the Imam, he has spoken (i.e., his prayer will be invalidated)." The narrator of this narration, Muhammad bin Salim, is abandoned.
Hadith 1490
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ بُهْلُولٍ ، ثنا عَبَّادُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ، ثنا شَرِيكٌ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنِ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ ، قَالَ : " هُوَ كَلامٌ " ، يَعْنِي الْفَتْحَ عَلَى الإِمَامِ .
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "This is speech." (The narrator says:) That is, prompting the Imam.
Hadith 1491
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ، ثنا دَاوُدُ بْنُ رُشَيْدٍ ، ثنا أَبُو حَفْصٍ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ ، عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ ، قَالَ : " إِذَا اسْتَطْعَمَكُمُ الإِمَامُ فَأَطْعِمُوهُ " .
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "When the imam asks you for something to eat, then feed him (i.e., prompt him if he forgets)."
Hadith 1492
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُبَشِّرٍ ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سِنَانٍ ، ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ الزُّهْرِيُّ ، ثنا عُمَرُ بْنُ نَجِيحٍ ، ثنا أَبُو مُعَاذٍ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ ، قَالَ : صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلاةً ، فَقَرَأَ سُورَةً ، فَأَسْقَطَ مِنْهَا آيَةً فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ ، قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ آيَةَ كَذَا وَكَذَا أَنُسِخَتْ ؟ قَالَ : " لا " ، قُلْتُ : فَإِنَّكَ لَمْ تَقْرَأْهَا ، قَالَ : " أَفَلا لَقَنْتَنِيهَا ؟ " .
Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was leading us in prayer, and he began to recite a surah, but he omitted one verse from it. When he finished the prayer, I said: O Messenger of Allah! Has such-and-such verse been abrogated? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "No." I said: You did not recite it. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Why did you not prompt me?"
Hadith 1493
حَدَّثَنِي حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ مَنِيعٍ ، ثنا زِيَادُ بْنُ أَيُّوبَ ، نا جَارِيَةُ بْنُ هَرِمٍ ، ثنا حُمَيْدٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : " كَانَ أَصْحَابُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُلَقِّنُ بَعْضُهُمْ بَعْضًا فِي الصَّلاةِ " .
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to prompt each other during prayer.
