بَابُ صَلَاةِ الْمَرِيضِ جَالِسًا بِالْمَأْمُومِينَ
Chapter on the sick person praying sitting with the congregation
Hadith 1480
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ الأَنْمَاطِيُّ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ كَثِيرِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ ، عَنْ مَحْمُودِ بْنِ لَبِيدٍ ، قَالَ : " كَانَ أُسَيْدُ بْنُ حُضَيْرٍ قَدِ اشْتَكَى عِرْقَ النِّسَاءِ وَكَانَ لَنَا إِمَامًا ، وَكَانَ يَخْرُجُ إِلَيْنَا فَيُشِيرُ إِلَيْنَا بِيَدِهِ أَنِ اجْلِسُوا فَنَجْلِسُ ، فَيُصَلِّي بِنَا جَالِسًا وَنَحْنُ جُلُوسٌ " .
Mahmood bin Labeed narrates: Sayyiduna Usaid bin Hudair (may Allah be pleased with him) developed sciatica. He was our imam. He would come to us and gesture with his hand for us to remain seated, so we would remain seated. Then he would lead us in prayer while sitting, and we would also perform the prayer sitting.
Hadith 1481
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ غَالِبٍ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سِنَانٍ الْعَوَقِيُّ ، ثنا شَرِيكٌ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُهَاجِرٍ ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ ، عَنْ مَوْلاهُ السَّائِبِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، وَرَفَعَتْهُ ، قَالَ : " صَلاةُ الْقَاعِدِ عَلَى النِّصْفِ مِنْ صَلاةِ الْقَائِمِ إِلا الْمُتَرَبِّعُ " .
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates as a marfu’ hadith: “The one who performs prayer sitting receives half the reward compared to the one who performs prayer standing, except for the person who sits cross-legged.”
Hadith 1482
حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ الْخَضِرِ الْمُعَدَّلُ ، بِمَكَّةَ ، ثنا أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ النَّسَائِيُّ ، ثنا هَارُونُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ الْحَفَرِيُّ ، عَنْ حَفْصِ بْنِ غِيَاثٍ ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : " رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي مُتَرَبِّعًا " .
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: I have seen the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performing prayer while sitting cross-legged.
Hadith 1483
ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ، ثنا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْعَيْشِيُّ ، ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، " أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ وَجِعًا فَأَمَرَ أَبَا بَكْرٍ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ بِالنَّاسِ ، فَوَجَدَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خِفَّةً فَجَاءَ فَقَعَدَ إِلَى جَنْبِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، فَأَمَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَبَا بَكْرٍ وَهُوَ قَاعِدٌ ، وَأَمَّ أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّاسَ وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ " .
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was afflicted with an illness, he ordered Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) to lead the people in prayer. Then, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) felt better, he came and sat beside Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) in prayer while he was sitting, and Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) led the people in prayer while standing.
Hadith 1484
حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، ثنا أَبُو هِشَامٍ الرِّفَاعِيُّ ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ ، ثنا قَيْسٌ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي السَّفَرِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الأَرْقَمِ بْنِ شُرَحْبِيلَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، عَنِ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ فِي مَرَضِهِ : " مُرُوا أَبَا بَكْرٍ فَلْيُصَلِّ بِالنَّاسِ " ، وَوَجَدَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خِفَّةً فَخَرَجَ يُهَادَى بَيْنَ رَجُلَيْنِ ، فَتَأَخَّرَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَأَشَارَ إِلَيْكَ مَكَانَكَ فَجَاءَ فَجَلَسَ إِلَى جَنْبِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، وَقَرَأَ مِنَ الْمَكَانِ الَّذِي انْتَهَى أَبُو بَكْرٍ مِنَ السُّورَةِ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates regarding Sayyiduna Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him): During his illness, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer." Then, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) felt better, he went (to the mosque) walking between two men for support. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) began to step back, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gestured to him: "Stay in your place." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and sat beside Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), and he began to recite from the place where Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) had left off.
Hadith 1485
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُبَشِّرٍ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَبِيعَةَ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لا يَؤُمَّنَّ أَحَدٌ بَعْدِي جَالِسًا " . لَمْ يَرْوِهِ غَيْرُ جَابِرٍ الْجُعْفِيِّ ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ وَهُوَ مَتْرُوكٌ ، وَالْحَدِيثُ مُرْسَلٌ لا تَقُومُ بِهِ حُجَّةٌ.
Imam Sha'bi narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No person should lead the prayer while sitting." This narration has only been transmitted by Jabir, and he is considered unreliable, and this narration is also mursal; it cannot be regarded as authentic.
