Mujahid narrates: Ibn Abi Layla (the narrator is in doubt, perhaps these are the words) Abu Ma'mar has narrated this, that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) taught me the words of Tashahhud and stated that these words were taught to me by the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the same manner as he used to teach us a surah of the Qur'an (the words are as follows): "All pure, physical, and verbal acts of worship are exclusively for Allah. O Prophet! Peace be upon you, and may Allah's mercy and blessings descend upon you. And peace be upon us and upon all the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His servant and Messenger. O Allah! Send blessings upon Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and upon his family, just as You sent blessings upon Sayyiduna Ibrahim. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious. O Allah! Send blessings upon us along with them. O Allah! Send blessings upon Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and upon his family, just as You sent blessings upon Sayyiduna Ibrahim. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious. O Allah! Send blessings upon us along with them. May Allah's blessings, the blessings of the believers, descend upon Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), who is the Prophet, the unlettered one. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and may Allah's mercy and His blessings descend upon you." Mujahid says: When a person uses these words while sending peace, "and peace be upon all the righteous servants of Allah," then he has sent peace upon all the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth. The narrator named Abdulwahab bin Mujahid is weak.

A narrator named Ibn Ishaq has transmitted this: He narrated to me this hadith about sending blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in prayer, that when any Muslim sends blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) during prayer. (In one narration, these are the words:) Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) reports: A man came and sat in front of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), while we were present around him. That man said: O Messenger of Allah! We have learned how to send peace upon you, but when we are praying, how should we send blessings upon you? The narrator says: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) remained silent, until we wished that the man had not asked this question. But then the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "When you want to send blessings upon me, then say: O Allah! Send blessings upon Muhammad (peace be upon him), the unlettered Prophet, and upon the family of Muhammad (peace be upon him), just as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim and upon the family of Ibrahim. And send blessings upon Muhammad (peace be upon him), the unlettered Prophet, and upon the family of Muhammad (peace be upon him), just as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim and upon the family of Ibrahim. Surely, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious."
