Hadith 1324
Aamir bin Abdullah narrates from his father (Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zubair, may Allah be pleased with them both): When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) would sit (during prayer), he would supplicate (the narrator says: that is, he would supplicate in Tashahhud), he would place his blessed right hand and then gesture with his index finger, and at that time he would place his thumb on his middle finger, while he would place his blessed left hand on his left knee, and he would grasp his left knee with his blessed left hand.
Hadith 1325
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to teach us the words of Tashahhud just as he used to teach us the Qur'an. He (peace be upon him) used to recite: "All verbal and physical blessings, pure acts of worship are exclusively for Allah. O Prophet! Peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah." The chain of this narration is authentic.
Hadith 1326
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to teach us this Tashahhud in these words: “All blessed, pure acts of worship are for Allah. O Prophet! Peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon all the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad (peace be upon him) is His special servant and the Messenger of Allah.”
Hadith 1327
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Before the tashahhud was made obligatory, we used to recite: Peace be upon Allah, peace be upon Jibreel (Gabriel) and Mika’eel (Michael). The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Do not say this, for Allah Himself is the Bestower of peace. Rather, say: All physical and verbal acts of worship and pure acts of worship are exclusively for Allah. O Prophet! Peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His servant and His Messenger.” Its chain of narration is authentic.
Hadith 1328
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to teach us the Tashahhud in these words: "All acts of worship are for Allah." (After this, the narrator mentioned the hadith as previously stated.)
Hadith 1329
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite in Tashahhud: “All verbal and physical acts of worship are exclusively for Allah. O Prophet! Peace be upon you and may Allah’s mercy descend upon you.” Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: I have added these words: and may His blessings also descend (the words of the Prophet’s Tashahhud are) Peace be upon us and upon all the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: I add these words: He is One, He has no partner (the words of the Prophet’s Tashahhud are) I bear witness that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His servant and His Messenger. The chain of this narration is authentic; some narrators have transmitted it as a marfu‘ (attributed to the Prophet) narration, while others have transmitted it as a mawquf (attributed to the Companion) narration.
Hadith 1330
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to teach the tashahhud in these words: “All pure acts of worship are exclusively for Allah. O Prophet! Peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings descend upon you. Peace be upon us and upon all the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, He is One, He has no partner, and Muhammad (peace be upon him) is His servant and His Messenger.” (The narrator says) Then he would send blessings upon the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). These words of the narration are from the narrator named Ibn Abu Uthman. Of the narrators of this narration, Musa bin Ubaidah and Kharijah—both are weak.
Hadith 1331
The narrator named Ya'qub bin Ashja' reports: 'Awn bin 'Abdullah wrote down for me the words of Tashahhud as narrated from Sayyiduna 'Abdullah bin 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), then he took my hand and explained: Sayyiduna 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) had once taken his hand and explained this to him, and once the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) had taken his hand and taught him the words of Tashahhud (which are as follows): "All greetings, prayers, pure and blessed acts are for Allah; all verbal and physical acts of worship are exclusively for Allah." The chain of this narration is Hasan, and its narrator Ibn Lahi'ah is not reliable.
Hadith 1332
Hittan bin Abdullah Raqashi narrates: These people performed prayer under the leadership of Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him), so Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari informed: Once, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) explained to us the method of performing prayer while delivering a sermon, and he taught us the Sunnah. After this, the narrator mentioned the entire hadith, which also includes these words: When a person sits in the Qa'dah (sitting position), he should recite these words: "All verbal and physical acts of worship are exclusively for Allah. O Prophet! Peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon all the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah, He is One, He has no partner, and I also bear witness that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His servant and Messenger." The students of the narrator named Qatadah have additionally reported these words: "He is One and has no partner," while other narrators have reported the opposite from Qatadah. The chain of this narration is connected and Hasan (good).
Hadith 1333
Qasim, the narrator, reports: Once Alqamah held my hand and told me: Once Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) held my hand and told me that once the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) held my hand and taught me the words of Tashahhud during prayer (these are the words): "All verbal and physical acts of worship are exclusively for Allah. O Prophet! Peace be upon you, and the mercy and blessings of Allah be upon you. And peace be upon us and upon all the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His servant and Messenger." Other narrators have corroborated this narration.
Hadith 1334
The same narration is also transmitted with another chain; some narrators have reported additional words at the end, which are: "When you have recited this (the narrator is in doubt, perhaps these are the words), if you do this, then you have completed your prayer. Now, if you wish to stand up, then stand up; if you wish to remain seated, then remain seated." Some narrators, while transmitting this narration from Zuhair, have included these words in the hadith and joined them with the words of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), whereas the narrator named Shababa has transmitted it separately from Zuhair and has reported these words as the statement of Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him). And it seems more appropriate that these words are the statement of Sayyiduna Abdullah rather than being included in the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
Hadith 1335
The narrator named Qasim reports: Alqamah held my hand and informed me: Once, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) held my hand and told me: Once, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) held my hand and taught me the words of Tashahhud (these are the words): “All verbal and physical acts of worship are exclusively for Allah. O Prophet! Peace be upon you, and the mercy and blessings of Allah descend upon you, and peace be upon us and upon all the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His servant and Messenger.” Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says: When you have recited this, you have fulfilled the obligatory prayer upon yourself; now if you wish to stand, then stand, and if you wish to remain seated, then remain seated. Here, the narrator of this narration, Shababa, is trustworthy; he has separately mentioned this at the end of the narration, that these words are the speech of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud, and this narration is more authentic compared to the narration in which these words are combined with the words of the Prophet. And Allah knows best. Some other narrators have also transmitted it in this way as the words of Sayyiduna Abdullah, and they have not transmitted the (additional words) as a marfu’ (Prophetic) hadith.
Hadith 1336
The narrator named Qasim reports: Once Alqamah held my hand and told me: Once Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) held his hand and told him that once the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) held his hand and taught him the words of Tashahhud (which are): "All verbal and physical acts of worship are exclusively for Allah. O Prophet! Peace be upon you, and the mercy and blessings of Allah, and peace be upon us and upon all the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His servant and Messenger." Then Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When you have completed this (the narrator is unsure, perhaps these are the words), when you have done this, then you have completed your prayer. Now if you wish to stand, then stand, and if you wish to remain seated, then remain seated.
Hadith 1337
The same narration is also transmitted with some other chains, in which these words are found: The narrator named Qasim reports: Alqamah held my hand, and (in the narration, these words are also present) Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) held Alqamah's hand, and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) held the hand of Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) and taught the words of Tashahhud (which are as follows): "All verbal and physical acts of worship are exclusively for Allah. O Prophet! Peace be upon you, and the mercy and blessings of Allah descend upon you, and peace be upon us and upon all the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His servant and Messenger." Then Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When you have finished this, you will have completed the prayer; now if you wish, remain seated, and if you wish, stand up.
