بَابُ ذِكْرِ قَوْلِهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «مَنْ كَانَ لَهُ إِمَامٌ فَقِرَاءَةُ الْإِمَامِ لَهُ قِرَاءَةٌ» وَاخْتِلَافِ الرِّوَايَاتِ

Hadith 1233
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُبَشِّرٍ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ، ثنا إِسْحَاقُ الأَزْرَقُ ، عَنْ أَبِي حَنِيفَةَ ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ أَبِي عَائِشَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَدَّادٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ كَانَ لَهُ إِمَامٌ فَقِرَاءَةُ الإِمَامِ لَهُ قِرَاءَةٌ " . لَمْ يُسْنِدْهُ عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ أَبِي عَائِشَةَ ، غَيْرُ أَبِي حَنِيفَةَ ، وَالْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عُمَارَةَ ، وَهُمَا ضَعِيفَانِ.
Imam Abu Hanifa (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his chain of transmission the statement of Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him): The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever has an imam (i.e., is performing prayer in congregation), then the recitation of the imam is his recitation." This narration has only been transmitted from the narrator named Musa by Imam Abu Hanifa and a narrator named Hasan, and both of them are weak.
Hadith 1234
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ زَكَرِيَّا الْمُحَارِبِيُّ بِالْكُوفَةِ ، ثنا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلاءِ ، ثنا أَسَدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، عَنْ أَبِي حَنِيفَةَ ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ أَبِي عَائِشَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَدَّادِ بْنِ الْهَادِ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَخَلْفَهُ رَجُلٌ يَقْرَأُ ، فَنَهَاهُ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ تَنَازَعَا ، فَقَالَ : أَتَنْهَانِي عَنِ الْقِرَاءَةِ خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ فَتَنَازَعَا حَتَّى بَلَغَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ صَلَّى خَلْفَ إِمَامٍ فَإِنَّ قِرَاءَتَهُ لَهُ قِرَاءَةٌ " . وَرَوَاهُ اللَّيْثُ ، عَنْ أَبِي يُوسُفَ ، عَنْ أَبِي حَنِيفَةَ.
Imam Abu Hanifa (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates with his chain of transmission the statement of Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him): Once, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in prayer. During the prayer, a man behind him began to recite (Qur'an). One of the companions of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stopped him. When the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the prayer, the two began to argue. The first man said, "Are you stopping me from reciting (Qur'an) behind the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?" A dispute arose between the two. When the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) became aware of this, he said: "Whoever performs prayer behind the Imam, the recitation of the Imam is considered his recitation." This narration has been reported by Imam Layth bin Sa'd from Imam Abu Yusuf, from Imam Abu Hanifa.
Hadith 1235
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ ، ثنا عَمِّي ، ثنا اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ أَبِي عَائِشَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَدَّادِ بْنِ الْهَادِ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، أَنَّ رَجُلا قَرَأَ خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بـ : سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الأَعْلَى ، فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " مَنْ قَرَأَ مِنْكُمْ بِ سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الأَعْلَى ؟ " ، فَسَكَتَ الْقَوْمُ ، فَسَأَلَهُمْ ثَلاثَ مَرَّاتٍ كُلَّ ذَلِكَ لَيَسْكُتُونَ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ رَجُلٌ : أَنَا ، قَالَ : " قَدْ عَلِمْتُ أَنَّ بَعْضَكُمْ خَالَجَنِيهَا " .
Laith bin Sa'd, Imam Abu Yusuf, and Imam Abu Hanifa (may Allah have mercy on them) narrate, Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports: A man began reciting Surah Al-A'la while following the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) in prayer. When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the prayer, he inquired: "Who among you recited Surah Al-A'la?" The narrator states: Everyone remained silent. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) asked this question three times, and each time they remained silent. Then that man said: "I did." So the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I realized that one of you was causing difficulty for me."
Hadith 1236
وَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ شَدَّادٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْوَلِيدِ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، أَنَّ رَجُلا قَرَأَ خَلْفَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ فَأَوْمَأَ إِلَيْهِ رَجُلٌ فَنَهَاهُ ، فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ ، قَالَ : أَتَنْهَانِي أَنْ أَقْرَأَ خَلْفَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ فَتَذَاكَرَا ذَلِكَ حَتَّى سَمِعَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ صَلَّى خَلْفَ الإِمَامِ فَإِنَّ قِرَاءَتَهُ لَهُ قِرَاءَةٌ " . أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ هَذَا مَجْهُولٌ ، وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ فِي هَذَا الإِسْنَادِ جَابِرًا غَيْرُ أَبِي حَنِيفَةَ ، وَرَوَاهُ يُونُسُ بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي حَنِيفَةَ ، وَالْحَسَنِ بْنِ عُمَارَةَ ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ أَبِي عَائِشَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَدَّادٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِهَذَا .
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man recited (Qur'an) in the Zuhr and Asr prayers while following the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Another man gestured to stop him. When he finished the prayer, the first man said: "Are you stopping me from reciting while following the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?" A dispute arose between the two until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also heard about it. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever performs prayer behind the Imam, the recitation of the Imam is considered as his recitation." The narrator named Abu al-Walid is unknown. In its chain, the mention of it being narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) is only reported by Imam Abu Hanifa. This narration is also transmitted through another chain.
Hadith 1237
حَدَّثَنَا بِهِ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، نا يُوسُفُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ أَبِي الأَزْهَرِ التَّيْمِيُّ ، ثنا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ يَعِيشَ ، ثنا يُونُسُ بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ ، ثنا أَبُو حَنِيفَةَ ، وَالْحَسَنُ بْنُ عُمَارَةَ ، بِهَذَا . الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عُمَارَةَ مَتْرُوكُ الْحَدِيثِ ، وَرَوَى هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ سُفْيَانُ الثَّوْرِيُّ ، وَشُعْبَةُ ، وَإِسْرَائِيلُ بْنُ يُونُسَ ، وَشَرِيكٌ ، وَأَبُو خَالِدٍ الدَّالانِيُّ ، وَأَبُو الأَحْوَصِ ، وَسُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، وَجَرِيرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ ، وَغَيْرُهُمْ ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ أَبِي عَائِشَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَدَّادٍ ، مُرْسَلا عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَهُوَ الصَّوَابُ.
This narration from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) is also transmitted with another chain of narration. This same narration is also transmitted with some other chains of narration. In some chains, this narration is transmitted as a mursal hadith, and this is correct.
Hadith 1238
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ هِشَامِ بْنِ الْبَخْتَرِيِّ ، ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ عَطِيَّةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " مَنْ كَانَ لَهُ إِمَامٌ فَقِرَاءَتُهُ لَهُ قِرَاءَةٌ " . مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ مَتْرُوكٌ.
Salim bin Abdullah narrates from his father (Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever has an imam (i.e., is performing prayer in congregation), then the recitation of the imam will be considered as his recitation." The narrator of this narration, Muhammad bin Fadl, is abandoned.
Hadith 1239
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ الأَشْعَثِ ، وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، قَالا : نا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ مَزْيَدٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي أبِي ، ثنا الأَوْزَاعِيُّ ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَامِرٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي زَيْدُ بْنُ أَسْلَمَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنْ هَذِهِ الآيَةِ : " وَإِذَا قُرِئَ الْقُرْءَانُ فَاسْتَمِعُوا لَهُ وَأَنْصِتُوا لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ سورة الأعراف آية 204 ، قَالَ : نزلت فِي رَفْعِ الأَصْوَاتِ وَهُمْ خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الصَّلاةِ " . لَفْظُ ابْنِ أَبِي دَاوُدَ ، عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَامِرٍ ضَعِيفٌ.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates regarding this verse: "And when the Qur'an is recited, then listen to it and remain silent, so that mercy may be shown to you." Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: This was revealed regarding raising the voice. At that time, people were performing prayer behind the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). These words of the narration are from the narrator named Ibn Abu Dawood (may Allah have mercy on him). The narrator of this narration, Abdullah bin Aamir (may Allah have mercy on him), is weak.
Hadith 1240
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ نَصْرِ بْنِ سَنْدَوَيْهِ ، ثنا يُوسُفُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، ثنا سَلَمَةُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ ، ثنا الْحَجَّاجُ بْنُ أَرْطَاةَ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ زُرَارَةَ بْنِ أَوْفَى ، عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ ، قَالَ : كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي بِالنَّاسِ وَرَجُلٌ يَقْرَأُ خَلْفَهُ ، فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ قَالَ : " مَنْ ذَا الَّذِي يُخَالِجُنِي سُورَتَهُمْ " ، فَنَهَاهُمْ عَنِ الْقِرَاءَةِ خَلْفَ الإِمَامِ . وَلَمْ يَقُلْ هَكَذَا غَيْرُ حَجَّاجٍ ، وَخَالَفَهُ أَصْحَابُ قَتَادَةَ ، مِنْهُمْ : شُعْبَةُ ، وَسَعِيدٌ وَغَيْرُهُمَا ، فَلَمْ يَذْكُرُوا أَنَّهُ نَهَاهُمْ عَنِ الْقِرَاءَةِ ، وَحَجَّاجٌ لا يُحْتَجُّ بِهِ.
Sayyiduna Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was leading the people in prayer when a person began to recite (Qur'an) behind him. When the Prophet (peace be upon him) finished the prayer, he inquired: "Who among you was causing an obstruction regarding my Surah (recitation)?" Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade those people from reciting behind the Imam. These words have been narrated by the narrator named Hajjaj. Other students of Qatadah, namely Shu'bah, Sa'id, and others, have narrated the opposite. They did not mention these words in their narration: "The Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade them from reciting." The narrator named Hajjaj is not reliable.
Hadith 1241
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، ثنا بَحْرُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَلامٍ ، ثنا مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ ، ثنا وَهْبُ بْنُ كَيْسَانَ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " كُلُّ صَلاةٍ لا يُقْرَأُ فِيهَا بِ أُمِّ الْكِتَابِ فَهِيَ خِدَاجٌ إِلا أَنْ يَكُونَ وَرَاءَ إِمَامٍ " . يَحْيَى بْنُ سَلامٍ ضَعِيفٌ ، وَالصَّوَابُ مَوْقُوفٌ .
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Any prayer in which Surah Al-Fatihah is not recited is incomplete, except for the prayer in which one is following the Imam." The narrator Yahya bin Salam is weak. The correct view is that this narration is mawquf (stopped at the Companion).
Hadith 1242
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، ثنا يُونُسُ ، نا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَنَّ مَالِكًا أَخْبَرَهُ ، عَنْ وَهْبِ بْنِ كَيْسَانَ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، نَحْوَهُ مَوْقُوفًا.
This narration is transmitted as a mawquf narration with another chain of transmission.
