Hadith 1199
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ الْبَغَوِيُّ ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْجَعْدِ ، أنا شُعْبَةُ ، وَسُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : " صَلَّيْتُ خَلْفَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَأَبِي بَكْرٍ ، وَعُمَرَ ، وَعُثْمَانَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ فَلَمْ أَسْمَعْ أَحَدًا مِنْهُمْ يَجْهَرُ بِ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ " .
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I have performed prayer behind the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, Sayyiduna Umar, and Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with them). I did not see any of them reciting "Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Rahim" aloud.
Hadith 1200
ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْعَبَّاسِ الْبَغَوِيُّ ، ثنا عُمَرُ بْنُ شَبَّةَ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، ثنا شُعْبَةُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : " صَلَّيْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَأَبِي بَكْرٍ ، وَعُمَرَ ، وَعُثْمَانَ ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ فَلَمْ أَسْمَعْ أَحَدًا مِنْهُمْ يَقْرَأُ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ " . وَكَذَلِكَ رَوَاهُ مُعَاذُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ ، وَحَجَّاجُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ الْبُرْسَانِيُّ ، وَبِشْرُ بْنُ عُمَرَ ، وَقُرَادٌ أَبُو نُوحٍ ، وَآدَمُ بْنُ أَبِي إِيَاسَ ، وَعُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُوسَى 17 ، وَأَبُو النَّضْرِ ، وَخَالِدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ الْمَزْرَفِيُّ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ مثل قَوْلِ غُنْدَرٍ ، وَعَلِيِّ بْنِ الْجَعْدِ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ سَوَاءً . وَرَوَاهُ وَكِيعٌ ، وَأَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ بِلَفْظٍ آخَرَ.
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I have performed prayer behind the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, Sayyiduna Umar, and Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with them). I did not hear any of them recite "Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Raheem" aloud. This narration is also transmitted through some other chains, however, there are some verbal differences in them.
Hadith 1201
حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، ثنا وَكِيعٌ ، ثنا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ . ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ زَكَرِيَّا ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ وَكِيعٍ ، ثنا أبِي ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : " صَلَّيْتُ خَلْفَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَأَبِي بَكْرٍ ، وَعُمَرَ ، وَعُثْمَانَ فَلَمْ يَجْهَرُوا بِ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ " .
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I offered prayer behind the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, Sayyiduna Umar, and Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with them). These individuals did not recite "Bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim" aloud.
Hadith 1202
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ الْجُنَيْدِ ، ثنا أَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ ، ثنا شُعْبَةُ ، بِمِثْلِ قَوْلِ وَكِيعٍ سَوَاءً . وَرَوَاهُ زَيْدُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، فَقَالَ " فَلَمْ يَكُونُوا يَجْهَرُونَ " . وَتَابَعَهُ عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُوسَى ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، وَهَمَّامٍ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ.
This same narration is also transmitted with some other chains, however, there are some verbal differences in it. This narration has also been followed up.
Hadith 1203
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُبَشِّرٍ ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سِنَانٍ ، ثنا زَيْدُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ، أَخْبَرَنِي شُعْبَةُ بْنُ الْحَجَّاجِ ، ثنا قَتَادَةُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ، يَقُولُ : " صَلَّيْتُ خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَأَبِي بَكْرٍ ، وَعُمَرَ ، وَعُثْمَانَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ فَلَمْ يَكُونُوا يَجْهَرُونَ بِ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ " .
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I have performed prayer behind the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, Sayyiduna Umar, and Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with them). These individuals did not recite "Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Rahim" aloud.
Hadith 1204
حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ عَيَّاشٍ ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، نا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُوسَى ، ثنا شُعْبَةُ ، وَهَمَّامُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، " أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَأَبَا بَكْرٍ ، وَعُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا لَمْ يَكُونُوا يَجْهَرُونَ بِ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ " . وَرَوَاهُ يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، وَيَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْقَطَّانُ ، وَالْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُوسَى الأَشْيَبُ ، وَيَحْيَى بْنُ السَّكَنِ ، وَأَبُو عُمَرَ الْحَوْضِيُّ ، وَعَمْرُو بْنُ مَرْزُوقٍ ، وَغَيْرُهُمْ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ بِغَيْرِ هَذَا اللَّفْظِ . الَّذِي تَقَدَّمَ فَقَالَ : إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَأَبَا بَكْرٍ ، وَعُمَرَ ، وَعُثْمَانَ " كَانُوا يَفْتَتِحُونَ الْقِرَاءَةَ بِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ سورة الفاتحة آية 2 " . وَكَذَلِكَ رُوِيَ عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، وَثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ . وَكَذَلِكَ رَوَاهُ عَامَّةُ أَصْحَابِ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، مِنْهُمْ : هِشَامٌ الدَّسْتُوَائِيُّ ، وَسَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ ، وَأَبَانُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ الْعَطَّارُ ، وَحَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، وَحُمَيْدٌ الطَّوِيلُ ، وَأَيُّوبُ السَّخْتِيَانِيُّ ، وَالأَوْزَاعِيُّ ، وَسَعِيدُ بْنُ بَشِيرٍ وَغَيْرُهُمْ . وَكَذَلِكَ رَوَاهُ مَعْمَرٌ ، وَهَمَّامٌ وَاخْتَلَفَ عَنْهُمَا فِي لَفْظِهِ وَهُوَ الْمَحْفُوظُ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، وَغَيْرِهِ عَنْ أَنَسٍ.
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) did not recite Bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Raheem aloud. The same narration is also transmitted through some other chains, however, in it are these words: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, Sayyiduna Umar, and Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with them) would begin the recitation aloud with “Alhamdu lillahi Rabbil ‘alamin.” The same narration is also transmitted from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) through another chain. The same narration is transmitted through some other chains as well, however, there is a difference in wording.
Hadith 1205
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدِ بْنِ حَفْصٍ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَسَّانَ الأَزْرَقُ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ زَنْجُوَيْهِ . ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ ، قَالُوا : ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، أنا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، " أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَأَبَا بَكْرٍ ، وَعُمَرَ ، وَعُثْمَانَ كَانُوا يَفْتَتِحُونَ الْقِرَاءَةَ بِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ سورة الفاتحة آية 2 " .
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, Sayyiduna Umar, and Sayyiduna Uthman Ghani (may Allah be pleased with them) used to begin the recitation (in prayer, aloud) with "Alhamdu lillahi Rabbil 'alamin."
Hadith 1206
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَسَّانَ ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ السَّكَنِ ، ثنا حَمَّادٌ ، وَشُعْبَةُ ، وَعِمْرَانُ الْقَطَّانُ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : " صَلَّيْتُ خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَأَبِي بَكْرٍ ، وَعُمَرَ ، وَعُثْمَانَ ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ فَكَانُوا يَسْتَفْتِحُونَ الْقِرَاءَةَ بِ : الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ سورة الفاتحة آية 2 " .
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I have performed prayer behind the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, Sayyiduna Umar, and Sayyiduna Uthman Ghani (may Allah be pleased with them all), and all of them used to begin the recitation with "Alhamdu lillahi Rabbil 'alamin."
Hadith 1207
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ الصَّيْدَلانِيُّ ، ثنا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَاحِدِ بْنِ شَرِيكٍ ، ثنا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ ، ثنا الْوَلِيدُ ، ثنا الأَوْزَاعِيُّ ، عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : " كُنَّا نُصَلِّي خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَأَبِي بَكْرٍ ، وَعُمَرَ ، وَعُثْمَانَ فَكَانُوا يَسْتَفْتِحُونَ بِأُمِّ الْقُرْآنِ فِيمَا يُجْهَرُ فِيهِ " .
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We offered prayer behind the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, Sayyiduna Umar, and Sayyiduna Uthman Ghani (may Allah be pleased with them). These noble persons, in prayers where recitation is done aloud, would begin the recitation with "Alhamdu lillahi Rabbil 'alamin."
Hadith 1208
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْبَزَّازُ ، ثنا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ ، ثنا غَسَّانُ بْنُ مُضَرَ ، ثنا أَبُو مَسْلَمَةَ هُوَ سَعِيدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ الأَزْدِيُّ ، قَالَ : سَأَلْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ : أَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَسْتَفْتِحُ بِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ سورة الفاتحة آية 2 أَوْ بِ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ سورة الفاتحة آية 1 ؟ فَقَالَ : " إِنَّكَ تَسْأَلُنِي عَنْ شَيْءٍ مَا أَحْفَظُهُ وَمَا سَأَلَنِي عَنْهُ أَحَدٌ قَبْلَكَ " ، قُلْتُ : " أَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي فِي النَّعْلَيْنِ ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ " . هَذَا إِسْنَادٌ صَحِيحٌ.
Saeed bin Yazid Azdi (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: I asked Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him): Did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) begin the recitation (aloud) with "Alhamdu lillahi Rabbil 'alamin" or with "Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim"? He replied: You have asked me about something which I do not remember well, and no one before you has asked me about it. (The narrator says) I asked: Did the Prophet pray while wearing shoes? He replied: Yes. Its chain of narration is authentic.
