Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila narrates this statement of Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed me: I should say tasweeb in the Fajr adhan, and he forbade me from saying tasweeb in the Isha adhan.

Malik bin Dinar (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: When the son of Sayyiduna Abu Mahdhurah (may Allah be pleased with him) finished giving the adhan, I also climbed up the minaret of Masjid al-Haram behind him and said to him: Tell me about the adhan which your father gave in the presence of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). He replied: At the beginning of the adhan, he said the takbir, then recited these words: "Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah, hayya 'ala as-salah, hayya 'ala al-falah." He recited these once, then again recited these words: "Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah, ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah." Until at the end of the adhan, he recited these words: "Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar, la ilaha illallah." In narrating this tradition, Dawud (may Allah have mercy on him) is unique.

Sayyiduna Abu Mahdhurah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) taught him these words of the adhan: “Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah, Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah.” Then he again said: “Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah, Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah, Hayya ‘ala-s-Salah, Hayya ‘ala-s-Salah, Hayya ‘ala-l-Falah, Hayya ‘ala-l-Falah.”

Aswad (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: The conclusion of the adhan of Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) used to be upon these words: Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, la ilaha illallah.

Aswad (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: The last words of the Adhan of Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) used to be: La ilaha illallah.

Aswad (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates about Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him): At the end of his adhan, these words would be: Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar, la ilaha illallah.

Aswad (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: At the end of the adhan of Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him), these words used to be: Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, la ilaha illallah.

Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Once, Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) gave the adhan before true dawn, so the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed him to go back and announce three times: "Be aware! The servant had fallen asleep (meaning he made a mistake)." He went back and loudly said: "Be aware! The servant had fallen asleep." He said these words three times. Another narrator has corroborated this, however, this narrator is weak.

Nafi' reports: The muezzin of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), whose name was Masruq, gave the adhan before the true dawn had appeared, so Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) ordered him. After that, the hadith continues as previously mentioned.

Ayyub narrates: On one occasion, Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) gave the adhan at night. This narration is mursal.

Humaid bin Hilal narrates: Once, Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) gave the adhan during the night, so the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed him to go back to his place and announce loudly: "Beware! Indeed, the servant had fallen asleep (i.e., he made a mistake)." So he went back, and Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "If only Bilal's mother had not given birth to him."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Once, Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) gave the adhan before true dawn, so the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) became displeased. He instructed him to announce: "Indeed, the servant had fallen asleep." Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) felt very sorry about this. In this narration, the narrator named 'Amir made a mistake; the correct narration is the one that has already passed, which is transmitted from Nafi' on the authority of the muezzin of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) through the narrator named Ibn Harb.

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Once, Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) gave the adhan before true dawn. So the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed him: Go back and announce: "Indeed, the servant had fallen asleep." So he did so and said: "If only Bilal's mother had not given birth to him." And his forehead became covered with sweat. In narrating this report, the narrator named Abu Yusuf is unique. Other narrators have transmitted it as a mursal narration, which is reported from Qatadah.

Qatadah narrates: On one occasion, Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) gave the call to prayer (adhan). In its chain of narration, there is no mention of Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him). Its being mursal is correct.

Hasan al-Basri narrates this statement from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him): Once, Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) gave the adhan, so the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered him to repeat it. Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) climbed the minaret and was saying: "If only Bilal's mother would weep for him." And his forehead became covered with sweat. While repeating this phrase, he climbed the minaret and said: "Beware! The servant had fallen asleep." He repeated this sentence twice, then when true dawn appeared, he gave the adhan. The narrator of this narration, Muhammad bin Qasim Asadi, is extremely weak.

Muhammad bin Abdullah narrates from his uncle, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to adopt different forms, but he had not yet adopted any of them. The narrator states: Then Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zaid was taught the method of the adhan in a dream. He came to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him about it, so he said: "You tell this to Bilal." He told Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him), so Sayyiduna Bilal gave the adhan. Sayyiduna Abdullah narrates: I was watching him; I myself wanted to give it, so the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You say the iqamah."

The same narration, with another chain of transmission, is reported from Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Muhammad, from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him).
