بَابُ الْأَمْرِ بِتَعْلِيمِ الصَّلَوَاتِ وَالضَّرْبِ عَلَيْهَا وَحَدِّ الْعَوْرَةِ الَّتِي يَجِبُ سَتْرُهَا
Chapter on the command to teach prayers, disciplining for them, and the limit of awrah that must be covered
Hadith 886
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ صَاعِدٍ ، نا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، وثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ رُمَيْسٍ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ الدَّقِيقِيُّ ، قَالا : نا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ ، نا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ سَبْرَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ رَفَعَهُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِذَا بَلَغَ أَوْلادُكُمْ سَبْعَ سِنِينَ فَفَرِّقُوا بَيْنَ فُرُشِهِمْ ، فَإِذَا بَلَغُوا عَشْرَ سِنِينَ فَاضْرِبُوهُمْ عَلَى الصَّلاةِ " .
Abdul Malik bin Rabee’ narrates from his father, who narrates from his grandfather, as a marfu’ hadith reaching the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “When your children reach the age of seven, separate their beds. When they reach the age of ten, discipline them for neglecting the prayer.”
Hadith 887
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ، نا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ زَاجٌ ، نا النَّضْرُ بْنُ شُمَيْلٍ ، أنا أَبُو حَمْزَةَ الصَّيْرَفِيُّ وَهُوَ سَوَّارُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ ، نا عَمْرُو بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مُرُوا صِبْيَانَكُمْ بِالصَّلاةِ لِسَبْعٍ ، وَاضْرِبُوهُمْ عَلَيْهَا لِعَشْرٍ ، وَفَرِّقُوا بَيْنَهُمْ فِي الْمَضَاجِعِ ، وَإِذَا زَوَّجَ أَحَدُكُمْ عَبْدَهُ أَمَتَهُ أَوْ أَجِيرَهُ فَلا يَنْظُرْ إِلَى مَا دُونَ السُّرَّةِ وَفَوْقَ الرُّكْبَةِ ، فَإِنَّ مَا تَحْتَ السُّرَّةِ إِلَى الرُّكْبَةِ مِنَ الْعَوْرَةِ " .
Amr bin Shu'aib narrates from his father, who narrates from his grandfather: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Order your children to pray when they are seven years old, and beat them for (neglecting) it when they are ten years old, and separate their beds. And when a person marries his slave or servant to his maidservant, the maidservant should not look at his private parts, for the area between the navel and the knees is 'awrah (private)."
Hadith 888
حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ بُهْلُولٍ ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَبِيبٍ الشَّيْلَمَانِيُّ ، نا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ بَكْرٍ ، نا سَوَّارُ أَبُو حَمْزَةَ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مُرُوا صِبْيَانَكُمْ بِالصَّلاةِ فِي سَبْعِ سِنِينَ وَاضْرِبُوهُمْ عَلَيْهَا فِي عَشْرٍ ، وَفَرِّقُوا بَيْنَهُمْ فِي الْمَضَاجِعِ ، وَإِذَا زَوَّجَ الرَّجُلُ مِنْكُمْ عَبْدَهُ أَوْ أَجِيرَهُ فَلا يَرَيْنَ مَا بَيْنَ رُكْبَتِهِ وَسُرَّتِهِ ، فَإِنَّمَا بَيْنَ سُرَّتِهِ وَرُكْبَتِهِ مِنْ عَوْرَتِهِ " .

Hadith 889
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الصَّفَّارُ ، ثنا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الدُّورِيُّ ، نا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ الْجَبَلِيُّ الضَّرَّابُ رَفِيقُ يَحْيَى بْنِ مَعِينٍ ، نا النَّضْرُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ الْفَزَارِيُّ ، نا أَبُو الْجَنُوبِ ، قَالَ مُوسَى : وَاسْمُهُ عُقْبَةُ بْنُ عَلْقَمَةَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَلِيًّا رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، يَقُولُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الرُّكْبَةُ مِنَ الْعَوْرَةِ " . أَبُو الْجَنُوبِ ضَعِيفٌ.
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The knee is part of the 'awrah (private parts to be covered)." The narrator of this narration, Abu al-Junub, is weak.
Hadith 890
حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ بُهْلُولٍ ، نا جَدِّي ، نا أَبِي ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ رَاشِدٍ ، عَنْ عَبَّادِ بْنِ كَثِيرٍ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " مَا فَوْقَ الرُّكْبَتَيْنِ مِنَ الْعَوْرَةِ ، وَمَا أَسْفَلَ مِنَ السُّرَّةِ مِنَ الْعَوْرَةِ " .
Sayyiduna Ayub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The part above the knees is 'awrah (to be covered). The part below the navel is 'awrah (to be covered)."
Hadith 891
حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، نا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ ، ثنا دَاوُدُ بْنُ الْمُحَبَّرِ ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، عَنْ ثُمَامَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مُرُوهُمْ بِالصَّلاةِ لِسَبْعِ سِنِينَ وَاضْرِبُوهُمْ عَلَيْهَا لِثَلاثَ عَشْرَةَ " .
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Command them to pray at the age of seven, and beat them (for abandoning prayer) at the age of thirteen."
