Hadith 728
It is narrated from Abdullah bin Mubarak, Ata bin Yasar states: Both of those men became junub. Both of them performed tayammum. In this narration, there is no mention of Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him).
Hadith 729
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Once we set out on a journey. One of us was struck by a stone which wounded his head, then that person had a wet dream. He asked his companions: “Do you think I am allowed to perform tayammum?” The companions replied: “As long as you are able to use water, in our view, there is no concession for you.” So that person performed ghusl and passed away. We presented ourselves before the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). He was informed about this, so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “They have killed him. May Allah destroy them. Why did they not ask when they did not know? The cure for ignorance is to ask. It would have been sufficient for him to perform tayammum (to tie a bandage) and (the narrator is in doubt, perhaps these are the words) to wrap a bandage over his wound and wipe over it, and wash the rest of his body.” Here, the doubt is from the narrator named Musa. Shaykh Abu Bakr states: The people of Makkah are unique in narrating this narration, and the people of Jazirah have interpreted it. They have not narrated it from Ata’ from Sayyiduna Jabir. Only the narrator named Zubair has narrated this narration, and it is not authentic. Imam Awza‘i has narrated the opposite of this narration, which is transmitted from Ata’ from Sayyiduna Abdullah. There is also disagreement in the narration from Imam Awza‘i. According to one narration, it is transmitted from Ata’, and according to another narration, it is said: “I have come to know this from Ata’.” And Imam Awza‘i has transmitted the last part of this narration as a mursal narration from Ata’ from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and this is correct. Ibn Abi Hatim states: I asked my father and the narrator Shaykh Abu Zur‘ah about this, so both of them replied: This narration has been transmitted by Ibn al-‘Ashireen, from Awza‘i, from Isma‘il, from Ata’, from Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both). These scholars have transmitted it as an authentic narration.
Hadith 730
Ata reports: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated this: A man was wounded during the blessed time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He became junub (in a state requiring ritual bath). He inquired about the ruling, so he was told that he must perform ghusl (ritual bath). He performed ghusl and then passed away. This was reported to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so he said: "They have killed him. May Allah destroy them. Is the cure for ignorance not in asking questions?"
Hadith 731
The narrator named Ata reports that he learned that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was asked about this matter, so he (peace be upon him) said: "If that person were to wash his body and leave out his head where the wound was, then doing so would be permissible for him."
Hadith 732
The same narration is also transmitted with another chain from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) from the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).
Hadith 733
Ata bin Abi Rabah narrates that he heard Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) saying that during the blessed time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), a man was wounded, then he had a wet dream, so he was told to perform ghusl (ritual bath). He performed ghusl and then passed away. When this was reported to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), he said: "They have killed him. May Allah destroy them. Is the cure for ignorance not to ask?" The narrator named Ata states that we learned that when the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was asked about this, he said: "If that man had washed his body and left the part of his head where the wound was, it would have been correct."
Hadith 734
The same narration is also transmitted with another chain of narration from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both).
Hadith 735
This narration is also reported from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) with another chain of transmission.
Hadith 736
This same narration is also transmitted with another chain from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) from the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), while other narrators have also corroborated it.
