Hadith 721
Sayyiduna Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Pure earth is a means of ablution for a Muslim even if he does not find water for ten years.”
Hadith 722
Abu Qilabah narrates from a person belonging to Banu Amir: I was informed about Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him), so I went to him. I asked him: "Are you Sayyiduna Abu Dharr?" He replied: "That is what my family calls me." Then Sayyiduna Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: Once I said: "O Messenger of Allah! I have been ruined." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What has caused your ruin?" I said: "I was in a place where water could not be found. My wife was also with me. I became in a state of janabah (major ritual impurity)." So the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Pure earth is a means of attaining purification as long as a person does not find water, even if ten years pass. When you find water, then pour it over your body."
Hadith 723
Mahlab narrates from Sayyiduna Abu Dharr Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him): He says: I presented myself before the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and he said: "O Abu Dharr! Indeed, earth is a means of purification for a person who does not find water, even if he does not find it for ten years. When you find water, then pour it over your body."
Hadith 724
Amr bin Bajdan narrates: I heard Sayyiduna Abu Dharr Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) quoting the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) as saying: "Indeed, pure earth is a means of purification for a Muslim, even if it continues for ten years. When a person finds water, he should let it flow over his body. That will be better for him."
Hadith 725
The same narration is transmitted with another chain of narration from Sayyiduna Abu Dharr al-Ghifari, may Allah be pleased with him, however, in it are these words: The Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to him: "This is a means of attaining purity."
Hadith 726
Sayyiduna Abu Dharr Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Pure earth is a means of attaining purification even if a man does not find water for ten years. When you find water, let it flow over your skin.” The narrator Raja bin ‘Amir has narrated it in this way; however, the correct version is that this statement is transmitted from a person belonging to Banu ‘Amir, as Ibn ‘Ulayyah has transmitted it from the narrator Ibn Ayyub.
Hadith 727
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Once, two men set out on a journey. The time for prayer came upon them. They did not have any water, so both of them performed tayammum with clean earth. Then, during the time of that prayer, they found water. One of them performed ablution and repeated the prayer, while the other did not repeat the prayer. Then both of them presented themselves before the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and mentioned this matter to him. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to the one who did not repeat the prayer: "You did right, your prayer is valid." And to the other who performed ablution and repeated the prayer, he said: "You will have double the reward." In narrating this tradition from the narrator named Layth, the narrator named Abdullah bin Nafi' is unique. Ibn Mubarak and other hadith scholars have narrated the opposite of this.
