Chapter: Taking the beard
Hadith 555
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدِ بْنُ صَاعِدٍ ، نا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَوْفٍ ، وَأَبُو أُمَيَّةَ الطَّرَسُوسِيُّ . ح وَحَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ نُصَيْرٍ ، نا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْمَعْمَرِيُّ ، قَالُوا : نا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ ، نا عَبْدُ الْحَمِيدِ بْنُ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي الْعِشْرِينَ ، نا الأَوْزَاعِيُّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْوَاحِدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا تَوَضَّأَ عَرَكَ عَارِضَيْهِ بَعْضِ الْعَرْكِ ، وَشَبَّكَ لِحْيَتَهُ بِأَصَابِعِهِ مِنْ تَحْتِهَا " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution (washing his face), he would rub his cheeks and use his fingers to comb through his beard from underneath.
Hadith 556
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الصَّفَّارُ ، نا إبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ هَانِئٍ ، نا أَبُو الْمُغِيرَةِ ، ثنا الأَوْزَاعِيُّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْوَاحِدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، أَنَّ ابْنَ عُمَرَ ، " كَانَ إِذَا تَوَضَّأَ يَعْرُكُ عَارِضَيْهِ ، وَيُشَبِّكُ لِحْيَتَهُ بِأَصَابِعِهِ أَحْيَانًا وَيَتْرُكُ أَحْيَانًا " . مَوْقُوفٌ وَهُوَ الصَّوَابُ.
It is narrated about Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): When he performed ablution, he would rub both his cheeks and sometimes use his fingers to comb through his beard, and sometimes he would omit the combing. This narration is mawquf and this is correct.
Hadith 557
حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرٌ ، نا الْمَعْمَرِيُّ ، نا دَاوُدُ بْنُ رُشَيْدٍ ، نا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ كَثِيرِ بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ ، عَنِ الأَوْزَاعِيِّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْوَاحِدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي قَتَادَةُ ، وَيَزِيدُ الرَّقَاشِيُّ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " كَانَ إِذَا تَوَضَّأَ عَرَكَ عَارِضَيْهِ بَعْضَ الْعَرْكِ ، وَشَبَّكَ لِحْيَتَهُ بِأَصَابِعِهِ " .
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution, he would gently rub his cheeks and use his fingers to comb through his beard.
Hadith 558
حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرٌ ، نا الْمَعْمَرِيُّ ، نا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ أَبِي جَمِيلٍ ، نا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَمَاعَةَ ، ثنا الأَوْزَاعِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ قَيْسٍ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، وَيَزِيدَ الرَّقَاشِيِّ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا تَوَضَّأَ مِثْلَهُ .
Qatadah and Yazid Raqashi have narrated this: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) performed ablution, (then as mentioned previously in the hadith).
Hadith 558M
وَكَذَلِكَ رَوَاهُ الْوَلِيدُ ، عَنِ الأَوْزَاعِيِّ بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ ، مُرْسَلا أَيْضًا .
Yazid Raqashi narrates similarly about the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The transmission of this narration as a mursal narration is correct.
Hadith 559
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الصَّفَّارُ ، نا إبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ هَانِئٍ ، نا أَبُو الْمُغِيرَةِ ، ثنا الأَوْزَاعِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ قَيْسٍ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ الرَّقَاشِيِّ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، نَحْوَهُ . وَالْمُرْسَلُ هُوَ الصَّوَابُ.
Ismail bin Muhammad al-Saffar narrated to us, that Ibrahim bin Hani narrated to us, he said that Abu al-Mughira narrated to us, he said that al-Awza'i narrated to us, he said that Abdulwahid bin Qais narrated to me, he said that Yazid al-Raqashi narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and if this hadith is mursal (i.e., an intermediary narrator is missing), then even in that case it is authentic.
