Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka’b (may Allah be pleased with him) told me this: “Some people say: Ghusl (ritual bath) becomes obligatory due to ejaculation (discharge), (whereas in reality) this was a concession that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) granted in the early days of Islam. After that, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us to perform ghusl.” This narration is authentic.
Hadith 457
Al-Zuhri narrates: I asked Urwah about a person who has intercourse but does not ejaculate, so Urwah replied: "People's opinion is that they follow the last command of the Prophet (peace be upon him)." Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) told me this: "The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to do the same before and would not perform ghusl, but this was before the conquest of Mecca. After that, he started performing ghusl and instructed people to do so (in such a situation) as well."
