Hadith 435
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ، نا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَبِي الرَّبِيعِ ، نا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : كَانَ فِي كِتَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِعَمْرِو بْنِ حَزْمٍ : " أَلا تَمَسَّ الْقُرْآنَ إِلا عَلَى طُهْرٍ " . مُرْسَلٌ ، وَرُوَاتُهُ ثِقَاتٌ .
Abdullah bin Abu Bakr narrates from his father: In the letter that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) wrote to Sayyiduna Amr bin Hazm (may Allah be pleased with him), it was also stated: "You should only touch the Qur'an in a state of ablution (wudu)." This narration is "mursal" and its narrators are "thiqah" (trustworthy).
Hadith 436
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ، نا حُمَيْدُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ ، نا ابْنُ إِدْرِيسَ ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُمَارَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ حَزْمٍ ، قَالَ : كَانَ فِي كِتَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِعَمْرِو بْنِ حَزْمٍ حِينَ بَعَثَهُ إِلَى نَجْرَانَ ، مِثْلَهُ سَوَاءً.
Abu Bakr bin Muhammad narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) wrote a letter to Sayyiduna Amr bin Hazm (may Allah be pleased with him) when he sent him to Najran, and in it was also this matter: (After this, the narration continues as previously mentioned).
Hadith 437
حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، نا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ ثَوَابٍ ، ثنا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ ، ثنا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ مُوسَى ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ سَالِمًا ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لا يَمَسَّ الْقُرْآنَ إِلا طَاهِرًا " .
Salim narrates from his father (Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both): The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Only a person in a state of ablution should touch the Qur'an."
Hadith 438
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ، نا ابْنُ زَنْجُوَيْهِ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، نا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، وَمُحَمَّدٍ ابْنِي أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ حَزْمٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِمَا ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَتَبَ كِتَابًا فِيهِ : " وَلا تَمَسَّ الْقُرْآنَ إِلا طَاهِرًا " .
Abdullah bin Abu Bakr and Muhammad bin Abu Bakr narrate from their father: The Noble Prophet (peace be upon him) wrote a letter to him, in which it was also stated: "Only a person in a state of ablution should touch the Qur'an."
Hadith 439
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى . ح وَثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، نا إبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ هَانِئٍ ، قَالا : نا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، نا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَمْزَةَ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ دَاوُدَ ، حَدَّثَنِي الزُّهْرِيُّ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ حَزْمٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَتَبَ إِلَى أَهْلِ الْيَمَنِ كِتَابًا فَكَانَ فِيهِ : " لا يَمَسَّ الْقُرْآنَ إِلا طَاهِرٌ " .
Abu Bakr bin Muhammad, on the authority of his father, narrates from his grandfather: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) wrote a letter to the people of Yemen in which it was also stated: "Only a person in a state of ablution should touch the Qur'an."
Hadith 440
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ، نا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنِي إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْمِنْقَرِيُّ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبِي ، نا سُوَيْدٌ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ ، نا مَطَرٌ الْوَرَّاقُ ، عَنْ حَسَّانَ بْنِ بِلالٍ ، عَنْ حَكِيمِ بْنِ حِزَامٍ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ لَهُ : " لا تَمَسَّ الْقُرْآنَ إِلا وَأَنْتَ عَلَى طُهْرٍ " . قَالَ لَنَا ابْنُ مَخْلَدٍ : سَمِعْتُ جَعْفَرًا ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعَ حَسَّانُ بْنُ بِلالٍ مِنْ عَائِشَةَ ، وَعَمَّارٍ ، قِيلَ لَهُ : سَمِعَ مَطَرٌ مِنْ حَسَّانَ ؟ فَقَالَ : نَعَمْ.
Sayyiduna Hakim bin Hizam (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to him: "You should only touch the Qur'an when you are in a state of ablution (wudu)."
Hadith 441
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ غَيْلانَ ، نا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ الْجُنَيْدِ ، وَحَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ الآدَمِيُّ ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ الْمُنَادِي ، قَالا : نا إِسْحَاقُ الأَزْرَقُ ، نا الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ الْبَصْرِيُّ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : " خَرَجَ عُمَرُ مُتَقَلِّدًا السَّيْفَ ، فَقِيلَ لَهُ : إِنَّ خَتَنَكَ وَأُخْتَكَ قَدْ صَبَوْا ، فَأَتَاهُمَا عُمَرُ وَعِنْدَهُمَا رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ ، يُقَالُ لَهُ : خَبَّابٌ ، وَكَانُوا يَقْرَؤُونَ طه ، فَقَالَ : أَعْطُونِي الْكِتَابَ الَّذِي عِنْدَكُمْ أَقْرَأَهُ ، وَكَانَ عُمَرُ يَقْرَأُ الْكِتَابَ ، فَقَالَتْ لَهُ أُخْتُهُ : إِنَّكَ رِجْسٌ ، وَلا يَمَسُّهُ إِلا الْمُطَهَّرُونَ ، فَقُمْ فَاغْتَسِلْ أَوْ تَوَضَّأْ ، فَقَامَ عُمَرُ فَتَوَضَّأَ ، ثُمَّ أَخَذَ الْكِتَابَ فَقَرَأَ طه " . الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ ، لَيْسَ بِالْقَوِيِّ.
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) went out with a sword hanging from his neck, and he was informed: "Your brother-in-law and your sister have become irreligious (meaning they have accepted Islam)." So Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came to both of them, and at that time a Muhajir man named Habbab was sitting with them. They were reciting Surah Al-Fatihah, so Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "This book that you have, give it to me as well so that I may read it." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) wanted to read this book, but his sister said to him: "You are impure; only pure people can touch it, so wash yourself or perform ablution." So Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) got up, performed ablution, then took the writing and read Surah Al-Fatihah. The narrator of this narration, Qasim bin Uthman, is not reliable.
Hadith 442
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُبَشِّرٍ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ، قَالا : نا الْعَبَّاسُ الدُّورِيُّ ، نا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ ، ثنا أَبُو الأَحْوَصِ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ ، قَالَ : كُنَّا مَعَ سَلْمَانَ الْفَارِسِيِّ فِي سَفَرٍ فَقَضَى حَاجَتَهُ ، فَقُلْنَا لَهُ : تَوَضَّأْ حَتَّى نَسْأَلَكَ عَنْ آيَةٍ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ ، فَقَالَ : سَلُونِي فَإِنِّي لَسْتُ أَمَسُّهُ ، فَقَرَأَ عَلَيْنَا مَا أَرَدْنَا وَلَمْ يَكُنْ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَهُ مَاءٌ " . كُلُّهُمْ ثِقَاتٌ خَالَفَهُ جَمَاعَةٌ.
Alqamah narrates: Once we were on a journey with Sayyiduna Salman al-Farsi (may Allah be pleased with him). He relieved himself, and we said to him: "Perform ablution so that we may ask you about a verse of the Qur'an." Sayyiduna Salman al-Farsi (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Ask me your question; I am not touching the Qur'an." Then he recited before us the verse that we wanted, and at that time there was no water between us and him. All the narrators of this narration are trustworthy, and a group has disagreed with it.
Hadith 443
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ، نا الْحَسَّانِيُّ ، نا وَكِيعٌ ، نا الأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ، قَالَ : كُنَّا مَعَ سَلْمَانَ فَخَرَجَ فَقَضَى حَاجَتَهُ ثُمَّ جَاءَ ، فَقُلْتُ : يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، لَوْ تَوَضَّأْتَ لَعَلَّنَا أَنْ نَسْأَلَكَ عَنْ آيَاتٍ ، فَقَالَ : إِنِّي لَسْتُ أَمَسُّهُ إِنَّمَا لا يَمَسُّهُ إِلا الْمُطَهَّرُونَ ، فَقَرَأَ عَلَيْنَا مَا يَشَاءُ " . كُلُّهُمْ ثِقَاتٌ.
Abdur Rahman bin Yazid narrates: Once we were with Salman al-Farsi (may Allah be pleased with him), he went away, relieved himself, and then returned. I said, "O Abu Abdullah! If you perform ablution, it would be appropriate, so that we may ask you about some verses." So, Salman al-Farsi (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "I am not touching the Qur'an; only those who are in a state of ablution may touch it." (The narrator states:) Then Salman al-Farsi (may Allah be pleased with him) recited before us the verses that we wanted. All the narrators of this narration are trustworthy.
Hadith 444
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ، نا الصَّغَانِيُّ ، ثنا شُجَاعُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ ، ثنا الأَعْمَشُ ، وَثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ، نا إِبْرَاهِيمُ الْحَرْبِيُّ ، نا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، ثنا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، ثنا الأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ، عَنْ سَلْمَانَ ، قَالَ : " كُنَّا مَعَهُ فِي سَفَرٍ فَانْطَلَقَ فَقَضَى حَاجَتَهُ ثُمَّ جَاءَ ، فَقُلْتُ : أَيْ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ تَوَضَّأْ لَعَلَّنَا نَسْأَلُكَ عَنْ آيِ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ ، فَقَالَ : سَلُونِي فَإِنِّي لا أَمَسُّهُ إِنَّهُ لا يَمَسُّهُ إِلا الْمُطَهَّرُونَ " ، فَسَأَلْنَاهُ ، فَقَرَأَ عَلَيْنَا قَبْلَ أَنْ يَتَوَضَّأَ . الْمَعْنَى قَرِيبٌ كُلُّهَا صِحَاحٌ.
Abdur Rahman bin Yazid narrates: Once we were traveling with Sayyiduna Salman al-Farsi (may Allah be pleased with him). He went away to relieve himself, then he returned, so I said: “O Abu Abdullah! Please perform ablution so that we may ask you about some verses of the Qur’an.” He replied: “Ask me, I am not touching it; only those in a state of ablution may touch it.” Then we asked Sayyiduna Salman al-Farsi (may Allah be pleased with him) questions, and he recited some verses before us even before performing ablution. The content of this narration is nearly the same, and all the chains of transmission are authentically reported.
Hadith 445
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ، نا إِبْرَاهِيمُ الْحَرْبِيُّ ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ، نا أَبُو الأَحْوَصِ ، قَالَ : وَثنا عُثْمَانُ ، نا جَرِيرٌ ، نا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ ، ثنا وَكِيعٌ ، قَالَ : وَحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ ، ثنا ابْنُ فُضَيْلٍ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ، عَنْ سَلْمَانَ ، نَحْوَهُ وَهَذَا مِثْلُهُ.
This same narration, along with some other chains of transmission, is reported from ‘Abdur Rahman bin Yazid regarding Sayyiduna Salman al-Farisi (may Allah be pleased with him).
Hadith 446
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، نا وَكِيعٌ ، نا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ مُعَاوِيَةَ الْعَنْسِيِّ ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ ، وَالأَسْوَدِ ، عَنْ سَلْمَانَ " أَنَّهُ قَرَأَ بَعْدَ الْحَدَثِ " . كُلُّهَا صِحَاحٌ.
It is narrated from Alqamah and Aswad regarding Sayyiduna Salman (may Allah be pleased with him): He recited a verse of the Qur'an while in a state of having no wudu. All these chains of narration are authentic.
