بَابُ مَا رُوِيَ مِنْ قَوْلِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «الْأُذُنَانِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ»
Chapter on what is narrated from the Prophet (peace be upon him): "The ears are part of the head"
Hadith 321
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ يَحْيَى بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ صَاعِدٍ ، ثنا الْجَرَّاحُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ، نا يَحْيَى بْنُ الْعُرْيَانِ الْهَرَوِيُّ ، نا حَاتِمُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، عَنْ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " الأُذُنَانِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ " . كَذَا قَالَ وَهُوَ وَهْمٌ ، وَالصَّوَابُ عَنْ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ هِلالِ بْنِ أُسَامَةَ الْفِهْرِيِّ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ مَوْقُوفًا ، هَذَا وَهْمٌ ، وَلا يَصِحُّ وَمَا بَعْدَهُ ، وَقَدْ بَيَّنْتُ عِلَلَهَا.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Both ears are part of the head." The narrator has transmitted it in this manner; however, this is a mistake of the narrator, because the correct version is: This is transmitted from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) as a "mawquf" narration.
Hadith 322
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ نُوحٍ الْجُنْدِيسَابُورِيُّ ، وَالْقَاضِي أَبُو طَاهِرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ نَصْرٍ ، قَالا : نا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُسْتَلِمِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ مَوْلَى بَنِي هَاشِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ يُونُسَ الْبَزَّازُ ، نا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الأُذُنَانِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ " . رَفْعُهُ وَهْمٌ وَالصَّوَابُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ مِنْ قَوْلِهِ ، وَالْقَاسِمُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، هَذَا ضَعِيفٌ.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Both ears are part of the head." The narrator has transmitted this narration as a "marfu‘" (attributed to the Prophet), and this is his error. The correct matter is that it is transmitted from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) as his own statement. The narrator of this narration, Qasim bin Yahya, is weak.
Hadith 323
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ أَيُّوبَ الْمُعَدَّلُ ، بِالرَّمْلَةِ ، نا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ وُهَيْبٍ الْغَزِّيُّ ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي السَّرِيِّ ، ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الأُذُنَانِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ " . كَذَا قَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ . وَرَفْعُهُ أَيْضًا وَهْمٌ . وَرَوَاهُ إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَاضِي غَزَّةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي السَّرِيِّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ ، عَنِ الثَّوْرِيِّ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ، وَرَفْعُهُ أَيْضًا وَهْمٌ وَوَهِمَ فِي ذِكْرِ الثَّوْرِيِّ . وَإِنَّمَا رَوَاهُ عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ أَخِي عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، عَنْهُ مَوْقُوفًا.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Both ears are part of the head." The narrator has transmitted this narration as a "Marfu‘" (attributed to the Prophet) hadith in this manner, but this is his error, while other narrators have also transmitted it from ‘Ubaydullah as a "Marfu‘" narration, but this too is their error. In addition, the narrator erred in mentioning the narrator named Thawri. However, with another chain, this narration is transmitted from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) as a "Mawquf" (attributed to the Companion) narration.
Hadith 324
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ الْفَارِسِيُّ ، نا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، أنا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، أَنَّ ابْنَ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : " الأُذُنَانِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ " ، مَوْقُوفٌ . وَكَذَلِكَ رَوَاهُ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، وَعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نَافِعٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، مَوْقُوفًا.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "Both ears are part of the head." This narration is "Mawquf" (stopped at the Companion).
Hadith 325
حَدَّثَنَا بِهِ حَدَّثَنَا بِهِ جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ، ثنا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ ، ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحِيمِ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، قَالَ : كَانَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ يَمْسَحُ أُذُنَيْهِ ، وَيَقُولُ : " هُمَا مِنَ الرَّأْسِ " .
Ja'far bin Muhammad al-Wasiti narrated that Musa bin Ishaq narrated to them, he said that Abu Bakr narrated to them that Abd al-Rahim bin Sulayman narrated from Ibn Ishaq, from Nafi', that Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to wipe over both ears and used to say, "Both of these are part of the head." This narration is also transmitted with another chain as a "mawquf" narration from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both).
Hadith 326
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ ، نا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ ، نا وَكِيعٌ ، نا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ نَافِعٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : " الأُذُنَانِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ " . قَالَ الشَّيْخُ : وَأَمَّا الْحَدِيثُ الأَوَّلُ الَّذِي رَوَاهُ يَحْيَى بْنُ الْعُرْيَانِ عَنْ حَاتِمٍ عَنْ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ مَرْفُوعًا ، فَهُوَ وَهْمٌ وَالصَّوَابُ عَنْ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ هِلالِ بْنِ أُسَامَةَ الْفِهْرِيِّ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ مَوْقُوفًا.
Nafi' reports: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to wipe both ears and used to say: "These two are part of the head."
Hadith 327
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ ، نا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ ، نا وَكِيعٌ ، نا أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، وَثنا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ، نا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، نا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، نا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ ، عَنْ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ هِلالِ بْنِ أُسَامَةَ الْفِهْرِيِّ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ ، يَقُولُ : " الأُذُنَانِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: "Both ears are part of the head."
Hadith 328
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ ، نا أَبُو مُوسَى ، نا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ، وَثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ ، نا عَبَّاسُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ ، نا وَكِيعٌ ، قَالا : نا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ أَبِي النَّضْرِ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ مَرْجَانَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : " الأُذُنَانِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ " .
Hilal bin Usamah narrates: I heard Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) saying: "Both ears are part of the head."
Hadith 329
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُبَشِّرٍ ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، نا عَبْدُ الْحَكِيمِ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ ، نا غَيْلانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، وَحَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ النَّحَّاسُ ، ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَرَفَةَ ، نا هُشَيْمٌ ، عَنْ غَيْلانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مَوْلَى بَنِي مَخْزُومٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ ، يَقُولُ : " الأُذُنَانِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ " . وَرُوِيَ عَنْ زَيْدٍ الْعَمِّيِّ ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، مَرْفُوعًا.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates: "Both ears are part of the head."
Hadith 329M
وَحَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ النَّحَّاسُ حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَرَفَةَ حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ عَنْ غَيْلاَنَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مَوْلَى بَنِى مَخْزُومٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ يَقُولُ الأُذُنَانِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "Both ears are part of the head."
Hadith 330
حَدَّثَنَا بِهِ أَبُو عُبَيْدٍ الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، نا إِدْرِيسُ بْنُ الْحَكَمِ الْعَنَزِيُّ ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ ، عَنْ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الأُذُنَانِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ " . مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فَضْلٍ هُوَ ابْنُ عَطِيَّةَ ، مَتْرُوكُ الْحَدِيثِ.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): He says: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Both ears are part of the head." The narrator of this narration is Muhammad bin Fadl bin Atiyyah, and he is "abandoned in hadith" (matruk al-hadith).
Hadith 331
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ زَكَرِيَّا النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ بِمِصْرَ ، نا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَبْدِ الْخَالِقِ الْبَزَّارُ ، ثنا أَبُو كَامِلٍ الْجَحْدَرِيُّ ، نا غُنْدَرٌ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " الأُذُنَانِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Both ears are part of the head."
Hadith 332
حَدَّثَنَا بِهِ أَبِي ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ الْبَاغِنْدِيُّ ، ثنا أَبُو كَامِلٍ بِهَذَا . تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ أَبُو كَامِلٍ عَنْ غُنْدَرٍ ووُهِمَ عَلَيْهِ فِيهِ تَابَعَهُ الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ بَدْرٍ ، وَهُوَ مَتْرُوكٌ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ . وَالصَّوَابُ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ مُوسَى ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، مُرْسَلا . فَأَمَّا حَدِيثُ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ بَدْرٍ.
This same narration is also transmitted with some other chains, in which at some points the narrator has made a mistake. There is also a supporting narration for this report, but the narrator who transmits it is abandoned. However, the more correct view is that this narration is transmitted as a "mursal" narration from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) through the narrator named Sulaiman bin Musa.
Hadith 333
فَحَدَّثَنَا بِهِ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ الزَّعْفَرَانِيُّ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ ، وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، قَالا : نا أَبُو يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي مَسَرَّةَ ، نا يَحْيَى بْنُ قَزَعَةَ ، نا الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ بَدْرٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الأُذُنَانِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Both ears are part of the head."
Hadith 334
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ النَّحَّاسِ ، نا أَبُو بَدْرٍ عَبَّادُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ . ح وَحَدَّثَنَا الْقَاضِي الْحُسَيْنُ ، قَالَ : كَتَبَ إِلَيْنَا عَبَّادُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ ، نا كَثِيرُ بْنُ شَيْبَانَ ، قَالَ : نا الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ بَدْرٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " تَمَضْمَضُوا وَاسْتَنْشِقُوا وَالأُذُنَانِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ " . الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ بَدْرٍ . مَتْرُوكُ الْحَدِيثِ.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “(While performing wudu) rinse your mouth and put water into your nose, and both ears are part of the head (i.e., the ears should also be wiped like the head).” The narrator of this narration, Rabi’ bin Badr, is abandoned in hadith.
Hadith 335
وَأَمَّا حَدِيثُ مَنْ رَوَاهُ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، عَلَى الصَّوَابِ فَحَدَّثَنَا بِهِ ، إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ ، نا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ ، نا وَكِيعٌ ، نا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، وَحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ، نا الْحَسَّانِيُّ ، نا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، وَحَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ ، نا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ ، نا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، نا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " الأُذُنَانِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ " .
Sulaiman bin Musa narrated this: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Both ears are part of the head."
Hadith 336
حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ ، نا السَّرِيُّ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، نا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ، وقَبِيصَةُ ، قَالا : نا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ مُوسَى ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، مِثْلَهُ.
Sulaiman bin Musa narrated the statement of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): "Both ears are part of the head."
Hadith 337
نا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُبَشِّرٍ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ، نا صِلَةُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ مُوسَى ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " الأُذُنَانِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ " .
This narration is also transmitted with another chain on the authority of Sulaiman bin Musa: "Both ears are part of the head."
Hadith 338
نا ثَمَانُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ ، نا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ، نا عبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ مُوسَى ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، مِثْلَهُ.
The same narration is also transmitted with another chain from Sulaiman bin Musa, from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): "Both ears are part of the head."
Hadith 339
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ مُبَشِّرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَاصِمٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ مُوسَى ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " الأُذُنَانِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ " . وَهِمَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَاصِمٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَالَّذِي قَبْلَهُ أَصَحُّ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Both ears are part of the head." In narrating this tradition, the narrator named Ali bin Asim made an error; he narrated it from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The narration previously transmitted from Ibn Jurayj is more authentic.
Hadith 340
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ طَاهِرٍ الْبَلْخِيُّ ، نا حَمَّادُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَفْصٍ بِبَلْخَ ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الأَزْهَرِ الْجَوْزَجَانِيُّ ، نا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ مُوسَى السِّينَانِيُّ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ مُوسَى ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ تَوَضَّأَ فَلْيَتَمَضْمَضْ وَلْيَسْتَنْشِقْ ، وَالأُذُنَانِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ " . كَذَا قَالَ وَالْمُرْسَلُ أَصَحُّ .وَرُوِيَ عَنْ جَابِرٍ الْجُعْفِيِّ ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ ، وَاختَلَفَ عَنْهُ .
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever performs ablution should rinse his mouth and put water into his nose, and both ears are part of the head (that is, they should also be wiped)." The narrator has transmitted it in this manner; however, its being "mursal" is more authentic.
Hadith 341
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ يَحْيَى بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ صَاعِدٍ ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ أَبُو سَعِيدٍ ، بِبَالِسَ ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُصْعَبٍ الْقَرْقَسَانِيُّ ، نا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا تَوَضَّأَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَتَمَضْمَضْ وَلْيَسْتَنْشِقْ وَالأُذُنَانِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When a person performs ablution, he should rinse his mouth and put water into his nose, and both ears are part of the head."
Hadith 342
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، نا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ التَّمِيمِيُّ ، نا حَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الصَّفَّارُ ، نا مُصْعَبُ بْنُ الْمِقْدَامِ ، عَنْ حَسَنِ بْنِ صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، مِثْلَهُ سَوَاءً ، إِلا أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " وَلْيَسْتَنْثِرْ ".
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated from the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) something similar to this, however, in it are these words: «وليستثر.»
Hadith 343
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ طَاهِرٍ الْبَلْخِيُّ ، نا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَمْدَانَ الْعَائِذِيُّ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ الأَنْطَاكِيُّ ، نا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ الْجُنَيْدِ الدَّامِغَانِيُّ ، وَكَانَ رَجُلا صَالِحًا ، نا عَلِيُّ بْنُ يُونُسَ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ طَهْمَانَ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الْمَضْمَضَةُ وَالاسْتِنْشَاقُ مِنَ الْوُضُوءِ الَّذِي لا يَتِمُّ الْوُضُوءُ إِلا بِهِمَا ، وَالأُذُنَانِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ " . جَابِرٌ ضَعِيفٌ ، وَقَدِ اخْتُلِفَ عَنْهُ فَأَرْسَلَهُ الْحَكَمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَبُو مُطِيعٍ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ طَهْمَانَ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ ، وَهُوَ أَشْبَهُ بِالصَّوَابِ.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Rinsing the mouth and putting water into the nose are such parts of wudu that wudu is not complete without them, and both ears are part of the head (i.e., they should be wiped over).” The narrator of this narration, Jabir, is weak, and there is disagreement regarding the transmission of this narration from him. The narrator named Hakam bin Abdullah has transmitted it as a mursal narration, and this appears to be more correct.
Hadith 344
حَدَّثَنَا بِهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ زَكَرِيَّا ، ثنا عَبَّادُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ، نا أَبُو مُطِيعٍ الْخُرَاسَانِيُّ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ طَهْمَانَ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ الْمَضْمَضَةَ وَالاسْتِنْشَاقَ مِنْ وَظِيفَةِ الْوُضُوءِ لا يَتِمُّ الْوُضُوءُ إِلا بِهِمَا ، وَالأُذُنَانِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ " . وَرَوَاهُ عُمَرُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ الْمَكِّيُّ ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسِ مَوْقُوفًا.
A narrator named Ata reported this: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Rinsing the mouth and putting water into the nose are among the acts of ablution without which ablution is not complete, and both ears are part of the head." This narration was transmitted by a narrator named Umar bin Qais with his chain from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) as a "Mawquf" narration.
Hadith 345
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي حَامِدٍ الْخَصِيبُ ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ، نا أَبُو مَنْصُورٍ ، نا عُمَرُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : " الأُذُنَانِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ فِي الْوُضُوءِ ، وَمِنَ الْوَجْهِ فِي الإِحْرَامِ " . عُمَرُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ ضَعِيفٌ . وَرَوَى عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ وَاخْتُلِفَ عَنْهُ.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: "In wudu, both ears are part of the head (i.e., both ears should also be wiped), and in ihram, they are part of the face (i.e., both should not be covered)." The narrator of this narration, Umar bin Qais, is weak. This narration is also transmitted from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) with another chain, however, there is some difference in it.
Hadith 346
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَهْلِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ ، نا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ الْعَبَّاسِ ، نا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، نا الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ غُصْنٍ ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الْمَضْمَضَةُ وَالاسْتِنْشَاقُ سُنَّةٌ ، وَالأُذُنَانِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ " . إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ضَعِيفٌ ، وَالْقَاسِمُ بْنُ غُصْنٍ مِثْلُهُ . خَالَفَهُ عَلِيُّ بْنُ هَاشِمٍ ، فَرَوَاهُ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ الْمَكِّيِّ ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ . وَلا يَصِحُّ أَيْضًا.
Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Rinsing the mouth and putting water in the nose are Sunnah, and both ears are part of the head." The narrator of this narration, Ismail bin Muslim, is weak, and Qasim bin Ghasn is also similarly weak. Ali bin Hashim has some discrepancy in narrating this narration; he narrated it with his chain from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), but this too is not authentic.
Hadith 347
قُرِئَ عَلَى أَبِي مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ صَاعِدٍ يَحْيَى بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ ، وَأَنَا أَسْمَعُ ، وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ، مِنْ كِتَابِهِ ، قَالا : نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ غَالِبِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ ، نا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ كَعْبٍ ، نا عَلِيُّ بْنُ هَاشِمٍ ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا تَوَضَّأَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَتَمَضْمَضْ وَلْيَسْتَنْشِقْ وَالأُذُنَانِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ " . وَرُوِيَ عَنْ مَيْمُونِ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ.

Hadith 348
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، نا أَبُو يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي مَسَرَّةَ ، نا خَلادُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ ، عَنْ مَيْمُونِ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " الأُذُنَانِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Both ears are part of the head."
Hadith 349
حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ الْخَضِرِ ، نا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَوْفٍ ، نا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ ، مِثْلَهُ .
This narration is also transmitted with another chain of transmission.
Hadith 350
وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ الشَّافِعِيُّ ، نا ابْنُ يَاسِينَ ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَالَجَ ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ ، بِهَذَا مِثْلَهُ . مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ هَذَا مَتْرُوكُ الْحَدِيثِ . وَرَوَاهُ يُوسُفُ بْنُ مِهْرَانَ ، عَن ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ مَوْقُوفًا.
This same narration is also transmitted with another chain of transmission, and one of its narrators, Muhammad bin Ziyad, is abandoned in hadith. This same narration is also transmitted with another chain of transmission as a "Mawquf" narration from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both).
Hadith 351
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ ، نا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ ، نا وَكِيعٌ ، ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ يُوسُفَ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : " الأُذُنَانِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ " . وَرُوِيَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said: "Both ears are part of the head." The same narration has also been reported from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him).
Hadith 352
حَدَّثَنَا دَعْلَجُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَيُّوبَ الرَّازِيُّ ، نا عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحُصَيْنِ ، نا ابْنُ عُلاثَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْكَرِيمِ الْجَزَرِيِّ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " تَمَضْمَضُوا وَاسْتَنْشِقُوا وَالأُذُنَانِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ " . عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحُصَيْنِ ، وَابْنُ عُلاثَةَ ضَعِيفَانِ.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “(While performing ablution) rinse your mouth and put water into your nose, both ears are part of the head.” One of the narrators of this narration, Amr bin Husayn, and the other narrator, Ibn Alathah, both are weak.
Hadith 353
نا نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ الْفَارِسِيُّ ، نا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، نا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَرَّرٍ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : " الأُذُنَانِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ " . ابْنُ مُحَرَّرٍ مَتْرُوكٌ.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Both ears are part of the head." One of the narrators of this narration, Ibn Muharrar, is abandoned.
Hadith 354
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ الْفَارِسِيُّ ، نا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ الْقَلانِسِيِّ ، نا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، نا الْبَخْتَرِيُّ ، وَحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ ، نا الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ عَاصِمٍ ، نا سَعِيدُ بْنُ شُرَحْبِيلَ ، نا الْبَخْتَرِيُّ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الأُذُنَانِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ " . الْبَخْتَرِيُّ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ ضَعِيفٌ ، وَأَبُوهُ مَجْهُولٌ . وَرَوَى عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى الأَشْعَرِيِّ.
Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reports: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Both ears are part of the head." The narrator of this narration, Bakhtari bin Ubaid, is weak and his father is unknown.
Hadith 355
حَدَّثَنَا بِهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ، نا أَبُو حَاتِمٍ الرَّازِيُّ ، نا عَلِيُّ بْنُ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ الأَحْمَرُ ، نا عَبْدُ الرَّحِيمِ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، نا أَشْعَثُ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " الأُذُنَانِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ " . رَفَعَهُ عَلِيُّ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحِيمِ ، وَالصَّوَابُ مَوْقُوفٌ ، وَالْحَسَنُ لَمْ يَسْمَعْ مِنْ أَبِي مُوسَى.
Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Both ears are part of the head." This narration has been transmitted as a "marfu'" narration by a narrator named Ali bin Ja'far, but what is more correct is that this narration is "mawquf." The narrator of this narration, Hasan, did not hear hadith from Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him).
Hadith 356
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ، نا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، نا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، نا عَبْدُ الرَّحِيمِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ أَشْعَثَ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى ، قَالَ : " الأُذُنَانِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ " . مَوْقُوفٌ . قَالَ تَابَعَهُ إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُوسَى الْفَرَّاءُ ، وَغَيْرُهُ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحِيمِ . وَرُوِيَ عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ الْبَاهِلِيِّ.
Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Both ears are part of the head." This narration is "Mawquf" (stopped at the Companion). Some other narrators have also followed it up. The same narration is also reported from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah Bahili (may Allah be pleased with him).
Hadith 357
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدِ بْنُ صَاعِدٍ ، وأَبُو حَامِدٍ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، قَالا : ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ الزِّيَادِيُّ ، ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ سِنَانِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ ، عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " الأُذُنَانِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ " وَكَانَ يَمْسَحُ عَلَى الْمَاقَيْنِ ، وَأَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَسَحَ رَأْسَهُ مَرَّةً وَاحِدَةً . شَهْرُ بْنُ حَوْشَبٍ لَيْسَ بِالْقَوِيِّ . وَقَدْ وَقَفَهُ سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، عَنْ حَمَّادٍ وَهُوَ ثِقَةٌ ثَبْتٌ.
Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Both ears are part of the head." (He also stated:) The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to wipe the corners of both eyes as well, and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to wipe his blessed head once. The narrator of this narration, Shahr bin Hawshab, is not reliable. The narrator named Sulaiman bin Harb has transmitted this narration as a "mawquf" narration, and this narrator is trustworthy and reliable.
Hadith 358
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْغَافِرِ بْنُ سَلامَةَ ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَوْفٍ ، نا الْهَيْثَمُ بْنُ جَمِيلٍ ، ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ سِنَانِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ ، عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " الأُذُنَانِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Both ears are part of the head."
Hadith 359
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ الشَّافِعِيُّ ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ شَاذَانَ ، نا مُعَلَّى بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ ، نا حَمَّادٌ ، عَنْ سِنَانٍ ، عَنْ شَهْرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَوْ عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ ، قَالَ : " الأُذُنَانِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ " ، بِالشَّكِّ.
Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The narrator is in doubt; perhaps these are the words: Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Both ears are part of the head." That is, there is doubt in this narration.
