Hadith 964

حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ الدَّقَّاقُ ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْخَلِيلِ ، ثنا خَلَفُ بْنُ تَمِيمٍ ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّهْشَلِيُّ ، عَنْ عَطِيَّةَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " يَوْمَانِ مِنَ الدَّهْرِ لا تَصُومُوهُمَا ، وَسَاعَتَانِ مِنَ النَّهَارِ لا تُصَلُّوهُمَا ، فَإِنَّ النَّصَارَى وَالْيَهُودَ يَتَحَرُّونَهُمَا ، يَوْمَ الْفِطْرِ وَيَوْمَ الأَضْحَى ، وَبَعْدَ صَلاةِ الْفَجْرِ حَتَّى تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ ، وَبَعْدَ صَلاةِ الْعَصْرِ إِلَى غُرُوبِ الشَّمْسِ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There are two days on which you should not fast and two periods in which you should not perform prayer, because the Christians and Jews seek (to worship) at these times: the day of Eid al-Fitr and the day of Eid al-Adha (are forbidden for fasting), and after the Fajr prayer until the sun rises and after the Asr prayer until the sun sets (it is forbidden to pray)."
