حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُبَشِّرٍ ، ثنا عَبْدُ الْحَمِيدِ بْنُ بَيَانٍ ، ثنا هُشَيْمٌ ، ثنا يُونُسُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ هِلالٍ ، " أَنَّ بِلالا أَذَّنَ لَيْلَةً بِسَوَادٍ ، فَأَمَرَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يَرْجِعَ إِلَى مَقَامِهِ ، فَيُنَادِي : إِنَّ الْعَبْدَ نَامَ " ، فَرَجَعَ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ : لَيْتَ بِلالا لَمْ تَلِدْهُ أُمُّهُ ، وَابْتَلَّ مِنْ نَضْحِ دَمِ جَبِينِهِ .
Humaid bin Hilal narrates: Once, Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) gave the adhan during the night, so the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed him to go back to his place and announce loudly: "Beware! Indeed, the servant had fallen asleep (i.e., he made a mistake)." So he went back, and Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "If only Bilal's mother had not given birth to him."
