Ammar bin Saad, may Allah have mercy on him, narrates from his father, Sayyiduna Saad bin Abi Waqqas, may Allah be pleased with him: This is the adhan of Sayyiduna Bilal, may Allah be pleased with him, which the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded him to give: Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah, Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah. Then he would repeat: Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah, Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah, Hayya ‘ala-s-Salah, Hayya ‘ala-s-Salah, Hayya ‘ala-l-Falah, Hayya ‘ala-l-Falah, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illallah. The words of their iqamah are as follows: The words of the iqamah are said once each, and this phrase is also said once: Qad qamatis salah. Sayyiduna Saad, may Allah be pleased with him, says: The Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to me: “O Saad! When you do not see Bilal with me, then you should give the adhan.” He placed his blessed hand on his head and said: “O Saad! May Allah grant you blessings! When you do not see Bilal with me, then you should give the adhan.” The narrator states: Then Sayyiduna Saad, may Allah be pleased with him, gave the adhan for the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, three times in Quba. The narrator states: When Sayyiduna Bilal, may Allah be pleased with him, sought permission from Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, to go for jihad, he asked: “O Bilal! Now to whom should I assign the task of adhan?” He replied: “To Saad, because he gave the adhan for the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, in Quba.” So Sayyiduna Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, called Sayyiduna Saad, may Allah be pleased with him, and said: “The task of giving the adhan is assigned to you and your children.” Then he gave him the spear which Sayyiduna Bilal, may Allah be pleased with him, used to carry for the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Sayyiduna Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, said: “You should walk in front of me carrying it.” Sayyiduna Bilal, may Allah be pleased with him, used to carry it in front of the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and would plant it in the Eid ground. So Sayyiduna Saad, may Allah be pleased with him, did the same.
