حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، ثنا أَبُو حُمَيْدٍ الْمِصِّيصِيُّ ، ثنا حَجَّاجٌ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ . ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، ثنا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، وأَبُو أُمَيَّةَ ، ومُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، وَغَيْرُهُمْ قَالُوا : حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ . ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ ، ثنا الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، ثنا الشَّافِعِيُّ ، ثنا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ أَبِي مَحْذُورَةَ ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ مُحَيْرِيزٍ أَخْبَرَهُ ، وَكَانَ يَتِيمًا فِي حِجْرِ أَبِي مَحْذُورَةَ حِينَ جَهَّزَهُ إِلَى الشَّامِ ، قَالَ : فَقُلْتُ لأَبِي مَحْذُورَةَ : أَيْ عَمِّ إِنِّي خَارِجٌ إِلَى الشَّامِ وَإِنِّي أَخْشَى أَنْ أُسْأَلَ عَنْ تَأْذِينِكَ فَأَخْبِرْنِي ، قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، خَرَجْتُ فِي نَفَرٍ فَكُنَّا فِي بَعْضِ طَرِيقِ حُنَيْنٍ ، فَقَفَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ حُنَيْنٍ ، فَلَقِيَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي بَعْضِ الطَّرِيقِ فَأَذَّنَ مُؤَذِّنُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالصَّلاةِ ، قَالَ : فَلَمَّا سَمِعْنَا صَوْتَ الْمُؤَذِّنِ وَنَحْنُ مُتَنَكِّبُونَ فَصَرَخْنَا نَحْكِيهِ وَنَسْتَهْزِئُ بِهِ ، فَسَمِعَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الصَّوْتَ فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَيْنَا إِلَى أَنْ وَقَفْنَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَيُّكُمُ الَّذِي سَمِعْتُ صَوْتَهُ قَدِ ارْتَفَعَ ؟ " ، فَأَشَارَ الْقَوْمُ كُلُّهُمْ إِلَيَّ وَصَدَّقُوا ، فَأَرْسَلَ كُلَّهُمْ وَحَبَسَنِي ، فَقَالَ : " قُمْ فَأَذِّنْ بِالصَّلاةِ " ، فَقُمْتُ وَلا شَيْءَ أَكْرَهُ إِلَيَّ مِنَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَمَا يَأْمُرُنِي بِهِ ، فَقُمْتُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَأَلْقَى عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ التَّأْذِينَ هُوَ بِنَفْسِهِ ، فَقَالَ : " قُلِ : اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ ، أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ، أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ " ، ثُمَّ قَالَ لِي : " ارْجِعْ فَامْدُدْ مِنْ صَوْتِكَ " ، ثُمَّ قَالَ لِي : " قُلْ : أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ ، أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ، أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ، حَيَّ عَلَى الصَّلاةِ ، حَيَّ عَلَى الصَّلاةِ ، حَيَّ عَلَى الْفَلاحِ ، حَيَّ عَلَى الْفَلاحِ ، اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ ، اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ ، لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ " ، ثُمَّ دَعَانِي حِينَ قَضَيْتُ التَّأْذِينَ وَأَعْطَانِي صُرَّةً فِيهَا شَيْءٌ مِنْ فِضَّةٍ ، ثُمَّ وَضَعَ يَدَهُ عَلَى نَاصِيَةِ أَبِي مَحْذُورَةَ ، ثُمَّ أَمَرَّهَا عَلَى وَجْهِهِ ، ثُمَّ أَمَرَّ بَيْنَ ثَدْيَيْهِ ثُمَّ عَلَى كَبِدِهِ حَتَّى بَلَغَتْ يَدُهُ سُرَّةَ أَبِي مَحْذُورَةَ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " بَارَكَ اللَّهُ فِيكَ وَبَارَكَ عَلَيْكَ " ، فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، مُرْنِي بِالتَّأْذِينِ بِمَكَّةَ ، فَقَالَ : " قَدْ أَمَرْتُكَ بِهِ " ، وَذَهَبَ كُلُّ شَيْءٍ كَانَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ كَرَاهِيَتِهِ وَعَادَ ذَلِكَ كُلُّهُ مَحَبَّةً لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَدِمْتُ عَلَى عَتَّابِ بْنِ أَسِيدٍ عَامِلِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَأَذَّنْتُ بِالصَّلاةِ عَلَى أَمْرِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ . قَالَ ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ : فَأَخْبَرَنِي مَنْ أَدْرَكْتُ مِنْ آلِ أَبِي مَحْذُورَةَ ، عَلَى نَحْوِ مَا أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ مُحَيْرِيزٍ . هَذَا حَدِيثُ الرَّبِيعِ وَلَفْظُهُ .
Abdullah bin Muhairiz (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: He was under the care of Sayyiduna Abu Mahdhurah (may Allah be pleased with him). When he was about to be sent to Syria, he said: I said to Sayyiduna Abu Mahdhurah (may Allah be pleased with him): Uncle! I am about to go to Syria, and I fear that I may not be able to ask you about your call to prayer (adhan). Please tell me about it. He replied: Yes! I went out with some people; we were on the road to Hunayn. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was returning from Hunayn. On the way, we encountered your caravan. The Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) mu’adhdhin gave the call to prayer. When we heard the mu’adhdhin’s adhan, we also loudly repeated those words, mocking it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) heard the voice and summoned us. We were brought before him. He asked: “Who among you was the one whose voice was loud and I heard it?” Everyone pointed towards me. They spoke the truth. He let everyone else go and kept me back. He said: “Stand up and give the call to prayer!” I stood up, and at that moment, your command was the most disliked thing to me. I stood before you. You yourself taught me the method of adhan and said: “Recite this: Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah, Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah.” Then you said: “Recite it again and raise your voice.” Then you said: “Now recite this: Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah, Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah, Hayya ‘ala-s-Salah, Hayya ‘ala-s-Salah, Hayya ‘ala-l-Falah, Hayya ‘ala-l-Falah, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illallah.” When I completed the adhan, you called me and gave me a pouch in which there was a little silver. Then you placed your blessed hand on my forehead, then over my face, chest, and liver, until you reached my navel. Then you said: “May Allah bless you and bestow blessings upon you.” I permit you. At that time, the dislike I had for you in my heart disappeared and turned into love for you. Then I went to Sayyiduna ‘Attab bin Asid (may Allah be pleased with him), who was the governor appointed by you, and began to give the adhan under your command. Ibn Jurayj (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I heard this narration from the descendants of Sayyiduna Abu Mahdhurah (may Allah be pleased with him), just as Ibn Muhairiz (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated it to me. This narration has been transmitted by Rabi’ (may Allah have mercy on him), and these are his words.
