حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ الْجُرَيْرِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْعَرْزَمِيُّ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ عُتَيْبَةَ ، عَنْ مُسَّةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّهَا سَأَلَتْهُ كَمْ تَجْلِسُ الْمَرْأَةُ إِذَا وَلَدَتْ ؟ قَالَ : " تَجْلِسُ أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْمًا إِلا أَنْ تَرَى الطُّهْرَ قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ " .
Sayyida Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates about the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): She asked him, "When a woman gives birth to a child, how long should she remain seated (in postnatal confinement)?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "Such a woman should remain seated for forty days. If she attains purity before that, (the ruling will be different)."
