حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي دَاوُدَ ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ . ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الْمَالِكِيُّ ، بِالْبَصْرَةِ ، ثنا أَبُو مُوسَى ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ أَخُو كَرْخَوَيْهِ . ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، نا أَبُو الأَزْهَرِ ، قَالُوا : نا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ ، نا أَبِي ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ يَحْيَى بْنَ أَيُّوبَ ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ ، عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ أَبِي أَنَسٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ ، قَالَ : احْتَلَمْتُ فِي لَيْلَةٍ بَارِدَةٍ وَأَنَا فِي غَزْوَةِ ذَاتِ السَّلاسِلِ ، فَأَشْفَقْتُ إِنِ اغْتَسَلْتُ أَنْ أَهْلَكَ ، فَتَيَمَّمْتُ ثُمَّ صَلَّيْتُ بِأَصْحَابِي الصُّبْحَ ، فَذُكِرَ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ " يَا عَمْرُو ، صَلَّيْتَ بِأَصْحَابِكَ وَأَنْتَ جُنُبٌ ؟ " ، فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ بِالَّذِي مَنَعَنِي مِنَ الاغْتِسَالِ ، فَقُلْتُ : إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ، يَقُولُ : وَلا تَقْتُلُوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ بِكُمْ رَحِيمًا سورة النساء آية 29 ، فَضَحِكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَلَمْ يَقُلْ لِي شَيْئًا . وَالْمَعْنَى مُتَقَارِبٌ.
Sayyiduna Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Once, on a cold night, I experienced a wet dream. This was during the expedition of Dhat al-Salasil. I feared that if I performed ghusl (ritual bath), I would perish, so I performed tayammum and led my companions in the morning prayer. Later, this matter was mentioned to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), so he asked: "O Amr! Did you lead your companions in prayer while you were in a state of janabah (major ritual impurity)?" I explained to him the reason that prevented me from performing ghusl. I said: I heard Allah, the Exalted, say: "Do not kill yourselves; indeed, Allah is ever Merciful to you." Upon this, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled and did not say anything.
