حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ خَلَفِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ جَبَلَةَ ، نا أَبُو حَاتِمٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَمْدَوَيْهِ بْنِ جَمِيلِ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ ، ثنا أَبُو مُعَاذٍ ، نا أَبُو عِصْمَةَ ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ ، عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ ، عَنْ أَبِي جُهَيْمٍ ، قَالَ : " أَقْبَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ بِئْرِ جَمَلٍ ، إِمَّا مِنْ غَائِطٍ أَوْ مِنْ بَوْلٍ ، فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيَّ السَّلامَ ، فَضَرَبَ الْحَائِطَ بِيَدِهِ ضَرْبَةً فَمَسَحَ بِهَا وَجْهَهُ ، ثُمَّ ضَرَبَ أُخْرَى فَمَسَحَ بِهَا ذِرَاعَيْهِ إِلَى الْمِرْفَقَيْنِ ، ثُمَّ رَدَّ عَلَيَّ السَّلامَ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Juham (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was coming from the well of Jamal, perhaps after relieving himself or urinating. I greeted him with salam, but he did not reply to my greeting. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wiped his blessed hand on the wall and performed masah (wiping) over his blessed face and both arms with it (i.e., performed tayammum), then he replied to my salam.
