حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عُمَرَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، نا أَبُو صَالِحٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ ، حَدَّثَنِي جَعْفَرُ بْنُ رَبِيعَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ هُرْمُزَ الأَعْرَجِ ، عَنْ عُمَيْرٍ مَوْلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَهُ يَقُولُ : أَقْبَلْتُ أَنَا وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يَسَارٍ مَوْلَى مَيْمُونَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى دَخَلْنَا عَلَى أَبِي الْجُهَيْمِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الصِّمَّةِ الأَنْصَارِيِّ ، فَقَالَ أَبُو الْجُهَيْمِ : " أَقْبَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ نَحْوِ بِئْرِ جَمَلٍ ، فَلَقِيَهُ رَجُلٌ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِ ، فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ السَّلامَ حَتَّى أَقْبَلَ عَلَى الْجِدَارِ ، فَمَسَحَ بِوَجْهِهِ وَذِرَاعَيْهِ ثُمَّ رَدَّ عَلَيْهِ السَّلامَ " .
Umair, who was the servant of Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them), narrates: Once, I and Abdullah ibn Yasar, who is the servant of the noble wife of the Prophet (peace be upon him), Sayyida Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her), both of us went to the service of Sayyiduna Abu Juham ibn Harith Al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Abu Juham (may Allah be pleased with him) informed us: The Prophet (peace be upon him) was coming from the direction of the well of Jamal. A man came before him and greeted him with salam. The Prophet (peace be upon him) did not reply to the salam. The Prophet (peace be upon him) went to the wall, wiped his face and both arms (i.e., performed tayammum), and then replied to his salam.
