Muhammad bin Sirin narrates: Once, an Abyssinian fell into the Zamzam well, that is, he fell and died. By the order of Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), his body was taken out, and regarding the well, Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) instructed that it should be cleaned. The narrator states: But the water of the spring was not under the control of the people; it came from the direction of the Rukn (Black Stone). Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) instructed regarding it: It should be completely closed off with cloths until it is fully sealed. When the people closed it, then water started flowing out from it again.
