حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ الْخَضِرِ ، بِمِصْرَ ، نَا أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ النَّسَائِيُّ ، نَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، نَا بَقِيَّةُ ، حَدَّثَنِي شُعْبَةُ ، حَدَّثَنِي حُمَيْدٌ الطَّوِيلُ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : " سَابَقَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَعْرَابِيُّ فَسَبَقَهُ ، فَكَانَ أَصْحَابُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَجَدُوا فِي أَنْفُسِهِمْ مِنْ ذَلِكَ ، فَقِيلَ لَهُ فِي ذَلِكَ ، فَقَالَ : حَقٌّ عَلَى اللَّهِ أَنْ لا يَرْفَعَ شَيْءٌ نَفْسَهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا إِلا وَضَعَهُ " .
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a Bedouin competed with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and surpassed the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). This caused great distress to the companions of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). They spoke to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about this, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is necessary that whomever Allah grants advancement in this world, He also brings him low at times."
