Amr bin Shuraid narrates: I and Sayyiduna Abu Rafi’ (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Sayyiduna Sa’d, so Sayyiduna Abu Rafi’ (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Buy my share that is present in the house. Sayyiduna Sa’d said: I do not wish to buy it. Then someone advised: You should buy it from him. Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I will buy it for four hundred dirhams, whether I pay quickly or delay the payment. So Sayyiduna Abu Rafi’ (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I will give it for five thousand dirhams, which must be paid immediately. So Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: I cannot pay you more. Sayyiduna Abu Rafi’ (may Allah be pleased with him) said: If I had not heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: “The neighbor has more right to buy the place present in his neighborhood,” I would not sell it for four hundred dirhams leaving five thousand dirhams.
