Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when this verse was revealed: "You will never attain righteousness until you spend from that which you love," (the narrator is unsure whether this verse is being mentioned:) "Who is it that will lend Allah a goodly loan," then Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) submitted: O Messenger of Allah! I have a garden in such-and-such place, I give it in charity for the sake of Allah. If I could have given it secretly, I would not have announced it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Distribute it among the poor people from your family and close relatives."
