حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الأَنْصَارِيُّ ، نَا أَشْعَثُ ، نَا بَكْرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْمُزَنِيُّ ، عَنْ أَبِي رَافِعٍ ، أَنَّ مَوْلاتَهُ أَرَادَتْ أَنْ تُفَرِّقَ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ امْرَأَتِهِ ، فَقَالَتْ : هِيَ يَوْمًا يَهُودِيَّةٌ ، وَيَوْمًا نَصْرَانِيَّةٌ ، وَكُلُّ مَمْلُوكٍ لَهَا حُرٌّ ، وَكُلُّ مَالٍ لَهَا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ، وَعَلَيْهَا الْمَشْيُ إِلَى بَيْتِ اللَّهِ إِنْ لَمْ تُفَرِّقْ بَيْنَهُمَا ، فَسَأَلَتْ عَائِشَةَ ، وَابْنَ عُمَرَ ، وَابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ ، وَحَفْصَةَ ، وَأُمَّ سَلَمَةَ ، فَكُلُّهُمْ قَالَ لَهَا : أَتُرِيدِينَ أَنْ تَكُونِي مثل هَارُوتَ وَمَارُوتَ ، وَأَمَرُوهَا أَنْ تُكَفِّرَ يَمِينَهَا وَتُخَلِّي بَيْنَهُمَا " .
Sayyiduna Abu Rafi’ (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that his freed slave woman intended to cause separation between Sayyiduna Abu Rafi’ (may Allah be pleased with him) and his wife. One day she said: If she did not do so, she would become a Jew, and according to another narration, she said: she would become a Christian, all her slaves would be freed, all her wealth would be given in the way of Allah, and it would become obligatory upon her to walk to the House of Allah (the Ka’bah) on foot, if she could not cause separation between the two. She asked Sayyida Aisha, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas, Sayyida Hafsa, and Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with them) about this matter, and all of them said to her: “Do you want to become like Harut and Marut?” Then all of them instructed her to give the expiation for her oath and to leave the two of them alone.
