It is narrated about Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that he gave this ruling: an umm walad will not be sold, will not be given as a gift, will not be transferred through inheritance; her master will continue to benefit from her as long as he lives. When the master dies, the umm walad will be considered free.
