Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever frees his share in a jointly owned slave, the value of the slave will be assessed fairly, and then that person will pay his co-owners their share, and the slave will be considered free on behalf of that person, if he is affluent. Otherwise, only the portion that he freed will be free on his behalf, and the remaining portion of the slave will remain as a slave."
