Qasim bin Muhammad narrates that two grandmothers (either maternal or paternal, or both maternal and paternal) came to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), so Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) made the maternal grandmother an heir instead of the paternal grandmother. Then Abdur Rahman bin Sahal (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: "He has participated in the Battle of Badr" (the narrator has mentioned these words once), and a man from Banu Haritha said: "O Sayyiduna Abu Bakr! O Caliph of the Messenger! You have given inheritance to her, that if she had died, the deceased woman would not have inherited from her." So Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) made both of them (the paternal and maternal grandmothers) heirs of the deceased woman.
