Abdullah bin Ali narrates regarding his grandfather Sayyiduna Rukanah bin Abdi Yazid (may Allah be pleased with him): He pronounced divorce to his wife, then he presented himself before the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and mentioned this matter to him. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "By Allah! Did you intend only one divorce?" He replied: "By Allah! I intended only one divorce." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then it will be counted as one divorce."
