نَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، نَا الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، أنا الشَّافِعِيُّ ، أنا عَمِّي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ شَافِعٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ السَّائِبِ ، عَنْ نَافِعِ بْنِ عُجَيْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ يَزِيدَ ، أَنَّ رُكَانَةَ بْنَ عَبْدِ يَزِيدَ طَلَّقَ امْرَأَتَهُ سُهَيْمَةَ الْبَتَّةَ ، ثُمَّ أَتَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، " إِنِّي طَلَّقْتُ امْرَأَتِي سُهَيْمَةَ الْبَتَّةَ ، وَاللَّهِ مَا أَرَدْتُ إِلا وَاحِدَةً ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِرُكَانَةَ : وَاللَّهِ مَا أَرَدْتَ إِلا وَاحِدَةً ؟ ، فَقَالَ رُكَانَةُ : وَاللَّهِ مَا أَرَدْتُ إِلا وَاحِدَةً ، فَرَدَّهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَطَلَّقَهَا الثَّانِيَةَ فِي زَمَانِ عُمَرَ ، وَالثَّالِثَةَ فِي زَمَانِ عُثْمَانَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا " .
Nafi' bin Ujeer narrates: Sayyiduna Rukanah bin Abd Yazid (may Allah be pleased with him) pronounced divorce to his wife, Suhaimah, then he presented himself before the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: "O Messenger of Allah! I have pronounced divorce to my wife, Suhaimah. By Allah, I only intended to give one divorce through it." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked Sayyiduna Rukanah (may Allah be pleased with him): "By Allah, did you only intend one divorce?" Sayyiduna Rukanah (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: "By Allah, I only intended one divorce." So the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returned the woman to him. Sayyiduna Rukanah (may Allah be pleased with him) gave the second divorce during the caliphate of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and the third divorce during the caliphate of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him).
