Nafi’ reports: When someone would ask Abdullah bin Umar about divorcing his wife during her menstrual period, Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) would tell him what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had instructed, and then say: “If you have given your wife one or two divorces, then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded me accordingly. But if you have given three divorces, then that woman has become forbidden to you until she marries another man and becomes divorced or widowed. You have disobeyed the command of your Lord regarding the ruling He gave you about divorce.”
