Nafi' reports: Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) gave his wife one divorce during the blessed time of the Prophet (peace be upon him), and the woman was in her menstrual period at that time. Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Prophet (peace be upon him) about its ruling, so he said: "Tell him to take her back (then the narrator mentioned the rest of the hadith as previously stated)." In this narration, these words are present: Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) says to such a person: "If you have given your wife one or two divorces, then the Prophet (peace be upon him) commanded me in this way. If you have given three divorces, then that woman is not lawful for you until she marries another man (and becomes divorced or widowed). You have disobeyed your Lord."
