Nafi’ narrates: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) divorced his wife while she was in her menstrual period. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) went to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: “Abdullah has divorced his wife while she was in her menstrual period.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Tell him to take her back, then when she becomes pure, then she experiences menstruation again, then when she becomes pure again, at that time if he wishes, he may keep her with him, and if he wishes to divorce her, then he should not have intercourse with her (but divorce her), this is the method by which Allah has commanded (to give divorce).”
