Shu’bi narrates: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar gave one divorce to his wife while she was in her menstrual period. Sayyiduna Umar asked the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) about this and informed him about it. So the Prophet instructed him (i.e., Ibn Umar) to take his wife back, then, during her waiting period (‘iddah), if he wished, he could give her another divorce. The first divorce that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar had given was counted as valid.
