Nafi‘ reports: Abdullah ibn ‘Umar gave his wife one divorce while she was in her menstrual period. ‘Umar asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about this issue, so the Prophet instructed him: “He should take her back and keep her with him until she becomes pure and then menstruates again, then wait until she becomes pure. Then, before having intercourse with her, he may divorce her. This is the method regarding which Allah has commanded that women should be divorced.”
