Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: I divorced my wife while she was in her menstrual period. Sayyiduna Umar mentioned this to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) expressed displeasure and said: "He should take her back, then keep her with him until she gets her next period, other than the period in which he divorced her. Then, if he wishes, he may divorce her when she becomes pure from that next period, and this divorce should be before he has intercourse with her. This divorce will be according to the method that Allah has commanded." Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) had given her one divorce, and it was counted as such. Then Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) took her back, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had commanded him.
