نَا ابْنُ صَاعِدٍ ، نَا عَبْدُ الْجَبَّارِ بْنُ الْعَلاءِ ، وَأَبُو عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ الْمَخْزُومِيُّ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْمُقْرِئُ ، وَاللَّفْظُ لِعَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ ، قَالُوا : نَا سُفْيَانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا الزُّهْرِيُّ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتِ : اخْتَصَمَ سَعْدٌ ، وَعَبْدُ بْنُ زَمْعَةَ ، عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي ابْنِ أَمَةِ زَمْعَةَ ، فَقَالَ سَعْدٌ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، " أَوْصَانِي أَخِي عُتْبَةُ ، فَقَالَ : إِذَا دَخَلْتَ مَكَّةَ فَانْظُرِ ابْنَ أَمَةِ زَمْعَةَ فَاقْبِضْهُ فَإِنَّهُ ابْنِي ، وَقَالَ عَبْدُ بْنُ زَمْعَةَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، " أَخِي ، ابْنُ أَمَةِ أَبِي ، وُلِدَ عَلَى فِرَاشِ أَبِي ، فَرَأَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ شَبَهًا بَيِّنًا بِعُتْبَةَ ، فَقَالَ : هُوَ لَكَ يَا عَبْدُ بْنَ زَمْعَةَ ، الْوَلَدُ لِلْفِرَاشِ ، وَاحْتَجِبِي مِنْهُ يَا سَوْدَةُ " ، تَابَعَهُ مَالِكٌ ، وَصَالِحُ بْنُ كَيْسَانَ ، وَابْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، وَشُعَيْبُ بْنُ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ ، وَابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، وَعَقِيلٌ ، وَابْنُ أَخِي الزُّهْرِيِّ ، وَمَعْمَرُ بْنُ رَاشِدٍ ، وَيُونُسُ ، وَاللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، وَسُفْيَانُ بْنُ حُسَيْنٍ وَغَيْرُهُمْ ، وَفِي حَدِيثِ مَالِكٍ ، وَمَعْمَرٍ ، وَاللَّيْثِ ، وَصَالِحِ بْنِ كَيْسَانَ ، وَابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ، وَغَيْرِهِمْ : فَمَا رَأَى سَوْدَةَ قَطُّ حَتَّى لَحِقَ بِاللَّهِ.
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna ‘Abd bin Zam’ah (may Allah be pleased with him) presented a case before the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding the son of Zam’ah’s slave woman. Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “O Messenger of Allah! My brother ‘Utbah instructed me (to take this child under my guardianship). He said: When you enter Makkah, take the son of Zam’ah’s slave woman, for he is my (illegitimate) child.” ‘Abd bin Zam’ah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “O Messenger of Allah! (That boy) is my brother, who is the son of my father’s slave woman and was born on my father’s bed.” The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) noticed a clear resemblance of the child with ‘Utbah, but he said: “O ‘Abd Zam’ah! He will be given to you, for the child is attributed to the owner of the bed.” And, “O Sawdah bint Zam’ah! Observe veil from him.” Imam Malik, Salih bin Kaysan, Ibn Ishaq, Shu’ayb bin Abu Hamzah, Ibn Jurayj, ‘Aqil, the nephew of Zuhri, Ma’mar bin Rashid, Yunus, Layth bin Sa’d, Sufyan bin Husayn, and other narrators have followed up on this narration. In the narration of Malik, Ma’mar, Layth, Salih bin Kaysan, Ibn Ishaq, and other narrators, these words are mentioned: “After that, the child never saw Lady Sawdah bint Zam’ah (may Allah be pleased with her) for the rest of his life.”
