Abu Uthman reports: A woman came to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "Her husband has become insane." So Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) ordered her to wait for four years, and then (after four years had passed) Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) ordered the guardian of the man afflicted with insanity to divorce the woman, then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) instructed the woman to observe the waiting period ('iddah) for four months and ten days.
