Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: When Barirah (may Allah be pleased with her) was given the choice, I saw her husband following her in the streets of Madinah, his tears flowing down his beard. He said to Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): "Will you intercede with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding this?" So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Barirah (may Allah be pleased with her): "He is your husband (you should stay with him)." Barirah (may Allah be pleased with her) asked: "O Messenger of Allah! Are you commanding me?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, I am only interceding." The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the woman the choice, so she chose herself. The narrator says: (Her husband) was a slave of Banu Mughira, and his name was Mughith.
