نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْبَخْتَرِيِّ ، نَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْخَلِيلِ ، نَا الْوَاقِدِيُّ ، نَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الزُّهْرِيُّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : " أَسْلَمَ غَيْلانُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ وَتَحْتَهُ عَشْرُ نِسْوَةٍ ، فَأَمَرَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يُمْسِكَ أَرْبَعًا وَيُفَارِقَ سَائِرَهُنَّ ، قَالَ : وَأَسْلَمَ صَفْوَانُ بْنُ أُمَيَّةَ وَعِنْدَهُ ثَمَانِ نِسْوَةٍ ، فَأَمَرَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يُمْسِكَ أَرْبَعًا ، وَيُفَارِقَ سَائِرَهُنَّ " .
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Sayyiduna Ghailan bin Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him) accepted Islam, and he had ten wives. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed him: "Keep four of them with you and separate from the rest." Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: When Sayyiduna Safwan bin Umayyah (may Allah be pleased with him) accepted Islam, he had eight wives at that time, so the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed him that "he should keep four of them with him and separate from the rest."
