حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ خُشَيْشٍ ، نا يُوسُفُ بْنُ مُوسَى الْقَطَّانُ ، ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، نا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ سِنَانِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ ، عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ ، أَنَّهُ وَصَفَ وُضُوءَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " كَانَ إِذَا تَوَضَّأَ مَسَحَ مَاقَيْهِ بِالْمَاءِ " . قَالَ : فَقَالَ أَبُو أُمَامَةَ : الأُذُنَانِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ ؟ قَالَ سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ : الأُذُنَانِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ ، إِنَّمَا هُوَ قَوْلُ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ ، فَمَنْ قَالَ غَيْرَ هَذَا فَقَدْ بَدَّلَ ، أَوْ كَلِمَةً قَالَهَا سُلَيْمَانُ أَيْ أَخْطَأَ . خَالَفَهُ حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، رَوَاهُ عَنْ سِنَانِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ " إِذَا تَوَضَّأَ غَسَلَ مَاقَيْهِ بِإِصْبَعَيْهِ " ، وَلَمْ يَذْكُرِ الأُذُنَيْنِ .
The narrator named Shahr bin Hawshab reported from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him): Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) described the method of ablution (wudu) of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and stated: When the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution, he would wipe the corners of his eyes with water. Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) also stated: "Both ears are part of the head." Sulaiman bin Harb stated: "Both ears are part of the head." This is the statement of Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him); whoever says anything else (i.e., considers it a hadith) has altered it. Here, the narrator named Sulaiman said something else, which meant: he made a mistake. Some other narrators have reported something different; they reported from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him): When the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution, he would wash the corners of both eyes with his fingers. However, they did not mention both ears in this narration.
