Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: A girl came to her (the rest of the narration is in the next hadith). Abdullah bin Buraidah narrates: A girl came to Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) and said, "My father has married me to his nephew so that, because of me, his inferior status may be improved. I do not like this." Lady Aisha said, "Sit here until the Prophet arrives; I will present your case before him." When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived, Lady Aisha presented the matter before him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called the girl's father, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the girl the choice (to maintain or annul the marriage). When the girl saw that she had been given the choice, she said, "I wish to keep what my father has done. I only wanted to know whether women have a choice in this matter." The narrator named Ibn Junaid has narrated these words: She said, "O Messenger of Allah! I accept what they have done. I only wanted to know whether women have a choice in this matter or not."
