نَا نَا دَعْلَجُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ ، نَا مُوسَى بْنُ هَارُونَ ، نَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ أَبُو خَالِدٍ ، عَنْ مُجَالِدٍ ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، قَالَ : " مَا كَانَ أَحَدٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَشَدَّ فِي النِّكَاحِ بِغَيْرِ وَلِيٍّ ، مِنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، وَكَانَ يَضْرِبُ فِيهِ " .
Shu'bi narrates: Regarding the matter of a woman marrying without a guardian (wali), the strictest among the companions of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was Sayyiduna Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him); he used to administer punishment for committing this act.
