Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When a man's slave-girl commits adultery and her adultery is proven, then that man should administer the legal punishment of lashes to her, but should not verbally abuse her." (The narrator says) The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said this three times, then on the third or perhaps the fourth time, he said: "Then he should sell her, even if it is in exchange for a rope made of hair." In this hadith, the word used, "dhafeer," refers to a rope.
