Haram bin Muhayṣah narrates from Sayyiduna Bara’ bin ‘Azib (may Allah be pleased with him): The she-camel of Sayyiduna Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him)’s family caused some damage to something, so the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave this ruling: “The protection of fruits (i.e., orchards and produce) during the day is the responsibility of their owners, and the owners of livestock will pay compensation for whatever damage their harmful animals cause at night.”
